The trial is set to begin\u200b on November\u200d 18 in federal court in Fort Pierce, Florida, two \u2062weeks after Election Day. Routh staked out at the perimeter of the golf course with a loaded semiautomatic rifle, but Secret Service agents spotted him before he could take a shot at Trump, according to authorities.<\/p>\n<p>The Justice Department brought an indictment against Routh over allegations that he attempted to assassinate a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/you-took-it-hook-line-and-sinker-rand-paul-grills-fbi-director-over-2016-trump-russia-investigation\/\" title=\"\u2018You Took It Hook, Line And Sinker\u2019: Rand Paul Grills FBI Director Over 2016 Trump-Russia Investigation\">major presidential candidate<\/a>, possessed a firearm as a convicted felon, possessed a firearm with an obliterated serial number, and other charges.<\/p>\n<p>If convicted, Routh faces a maximum penalty of life in prison.<\/p>\n<p>Cannon, a Trump appointee, was randomly assigned to Routh&rsquo;s case after she presided over the former president&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/doj-asks-supreme-court-to-reject-trump-request-in-fbi-classified-documents-case\/\" title=\"DOJ Asks Supreme Court to Reject Trump Request in FBI Classified Documents Case\">classified documents case<\/a>. Cannon, however, also speedily set a trial in Trump&rsquo;s case days after he was indicted last year.
