That will raise prices on everything for everyone,&rdquo; she said.<\/p>\n<p>Trump has called for reciprocal trade, meaning if countries impose tariffs or other <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/white-house-releases-list-of-president-trumps-accomplishments-and-it-is-historic\/\" title=\"White House Releases List of President Trump\u2019s Accomplishments \u2013  And It Is Historic!\">unfair trade practices<\/a> on the U.S. products, they will meet the same policy for their goods coming into the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>His campaign website highlights <a href=\"https:\/\/www.donaldjtrump.com\/issues\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fair trade agreements<\/a> his administration negotiated, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/senate-passes-trumps-usmca-trade-deal-overwhelming-margin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">USMCA<\/a> with Mexico and Canada.<\/p>\n<p>  <script> \t\t\t\tif( ! getCookie( 'ff_subbed' ) ) if( typeof FFADS.replace_ict !='undefined' ) if( FFADS.replace_ict ) eval( FFADS.replace_ict ); \t\t\t<\/script> <\/p>\n<p>During his first term, he imposed tariffs on <a href=\"https:\/\/taxfoundation.org\/research\/all\/federal\/trump-tariffs-biden-tariffs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">various Chinese goods<\/a> starting in 2018 (reaching as high as 25 percent) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/trump-reveals-exactly-fix-biden-harris-econ-disaster-will-rapidly-defeat-bidenflation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">inflation<\/a> remained low, reaching <a href=\"https:\/\/www.minneapolisfed.org\/about-us\/monetary-policy\/inflation-calculator\/consumer-price-index-1913-\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2.4 percent<\/a> that year and falling to 1.8 percent in 2019 and 1.2 percent in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>So China obviously absorbed the cost of the tariff and perhaps <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asiafinancial.com\/chinese-firms-seen-shifting-production-abroad-to-avoid-us-tariffs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">shifted<\/a> some of its manufacturing to other countries with better trade terms with the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>Despite<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/numbers-dont-lie-trump-sets-biden-straight-admin-best-economy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> his economic record<\/a>, Raimondo asserted, &ldquo;I don&rsquo;t think it is at all an exaggeration to think that Trump as president would tip us into a recession&rdquo; based on his tariff policy alone.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Squawk Box&rdquo;co-host <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/anchors-and-reporters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Becky Quick<\/a> responded, noting Trump uses the threat of high tariffs as a negotiation tool.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/fE0s17DH0I4?si=4OGBTVKXwqctYu0o\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Raimondo replied that people must take Trump at his word.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;By the way, he was president. We know what that resulted in,&rdquo; she added.<\/p>\n<p>Kernen then interjected, &ldquo;It seems like you kind of forgot that earlier.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The tariffs that he did put on were continued by the Biden administration. There was no recession. Real wages were actually up. Stock market did well. A lot of very positive things happened. Record low unemployment until the pandemic,&rdquo; he recounted.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;So it&rsquo;s just weird to act like it&rsquo;s a complete wild card. What have you seen? You&rsquo;ve seen more manufacturing since any time since World War II,&rdquo; Raimondo countered.<\/p>\n<p>Well, to the extent that&rsquo;s true, it is a trend that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.factcheck.org\/2024\/09\/trump-vs-harris-on-u-s-manufacturing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">began during the Trump administration<\/a> due to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/newt-gingrich-why-the-house-republican-commitment-to-america-matters\/\" title=\"Newt Gingrich: Why the House Republican Commitment to America Matters\">pro-growth tax policies<\/a> he and the Republican Congress implemented and Biden and Harris were not able to rescind. They tried but moderate then-Democratic Sens. Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/sinema-manchin-refuse-commit-build-back-better-higher-taxes-spending-hurt-economy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">blocked<\/a> their attempts.<\/p>\n<p>Kernen noted that the Biden-Harris administration has also included open borders and a decline in real wages, due to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/trump-reveals-exactly-fix-biden-harris-econ-disaster-will-rapidly-defeat-bidenflation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">40-year high inflation<\/a> on their watch.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;That&rsquo;s not true,&rdquo; Raimondo claimed regarding real wages declining.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Real weekly wages have gone down. Average weekly wages are still down from when Biden came into office,&rdquo; Kernan said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/07\/16\/business\/economy-trump-voters\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CNN<\/a> acknowledged that under Trump, &ldquo;Before the pandemic, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/poll-shows-growing-democratic-opposition-to-cheap-labor-migration\/\" title=\"Poll Shows Growing Democratic Opposition to Cheap Labor Migration\">median household income<\/a> saw the biggest spike in more than four decades &mdash; hitting a record high of $68,700 in 2019, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. The poverty rate fell to 10.5 percent, the lowest since records started six decades earlier.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>In 2023 dollars (i.e. post the Biden inflation spike) that peak would have been <a href=\"https:\/\/fred.stlouisfed.org\/series\/MEHOINUSA672N\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$81,210<\/a>, according to the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis.<\/p>\n<p>Under Biden-Harris household income dipped to $77,540 by 2022, before increasing to $80,610 in 2023. What had changed from the first two years of the administration? The GOP took over the House and at least put some restraint on the Democrats&rsquo; out of control deficit spending spree.<\/p>\n<p>Raimondo then tried to change the subject saying, &ldquo;When Biden came into office, we saw sky high unemployment.&rdquo; She said it three times in a row for emphasis. Repeating it over-and-over doesn&rsquo;t make it so.<\/p>\n<p>The economy was, in fact, well on its way to recovery when Trump left office in January 2021. The unemployment rate had dropped from a pandemic high of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bls.gov\/opub\/ted\/2020\/unemployment-rate-rises-to-record-high-14-point-7-percent-in-april-2020.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">14.7 percent<\/a> in April 2020 to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bls.gov\/news.release\/archives\/empsit_02052021.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">6.3 percent<\/a>.
