ahead of election<\/h1>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"tdb-title-line\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"tdb-block-inner td-fix-index\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"tdb-block-inner td-fix-index\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"tdb-block-inner td-fix-index\">\n<div id=\"Brid_1769538\" class=\"tpd-featured-video bridtv\"><\/div>\n<p><strong>EXCLUSIVE &mdash;<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/department-of-labor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Department of Labor\">Department of Labor<\/a> has landed itself back in the crosshairs of House Republicans over accusations it sought to boost Democrats in the 2024 elections by hosting a pro-union <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dol.gov\/newsroom\/releases\/osec\/osec20240918\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"event \">event <\/a>on the taxpayer&rsquo;s dime.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-paywall\">\n<p>In correspondence first seen by the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>, the House Education and Workforce Committee is demanding that acting Labor Department Secretary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2866965\/julie-su-nomination-labor-secretary-senate-vote\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Julie Su\">Julie Su<\/a> provide the panel with a litany of information on an event earlier this month inducting labor unions into its hall of fame and a panel discussion on the labor movement&rsquo;s future.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The timing and apparent one-sided nature of this event are highly suspect, occurring 49 days before election day and seeming to involve only union leaders as speakers,&rdquo; Education and Workforce Chairwoman Virginia Foxx (R-NC) wrote in a letter to Su. &ldquo;The Committee is concerned the event and panel discussion is another example of a pro-union pep rally held at DOL&rsquo;s national headquarters at taxpayer expense.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The Labor Department did not <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/us-banks-push-back-as-regulators-prepare-international-capital-hikes\/\" title=\"US banks resist as regulators plan global capital increases.\">immediately provide comment<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/live-blog\/2024-vice-presidential-debate-live-updates-vance-walz-cbs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2024 VICE PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE: VANCE AND WALZ TO GO TOE-TO-TOE IN CBS CONTEST<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The department originally billed the event as a tribute to nine labor unions inducted into its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dol.gov\/general\/aboutdol\/history\/century#:~:text=Established%20in%201992%20by%20Secretary%20of%20Labor%20Lynn%20Martin,%20the\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Century of Service Honor Roll of American Labor Organizations<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The panel discussion that succeeded the occasion spotlighted &ldquo;commitments unions have made at the national and local levels to foster a diverse workforce, including pledging to increase the percentage of women in the building trades and establish committees for underrepresented workers to involve them in their local union&rsquo;s work.&rdquo; Panelists were from some of the nation&rsquo;s largest unions, including the AFL-CIO and the Service Employees International Union. SEIU was one of the nine inductees.<\/p>\n<p>Foxx stated her committee &ldquo;has long been concerned about DOL&rsquo;s lapses in judgment involving holding one-sided events near an election.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>As evidence, she cited a 2022 &ldquo;Workers&rsquo; Voice Summit&rdquo; held by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration that occurred 43 days before that year&rsquo;s elections. Foxx accused the Biden administration of stonewalling their attempts at the time for more information despite issuing subpoenas.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;DOL never provided complete responses, leaving many aspects of this event a mystery,&rdquo; Foxx wrote.<\/p>\n<p>On the campaign trail, former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris are heavily <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/premium\/3161119\/trump-vance-making-big-play-for-union-votes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"courted union voters\">courting union voters<\/a>, an influential bloc of the electorate that has historically aligned more with Democrats and is largely supporting Harris.<\/p>\n<p>But in a blow to the Democratic nominee, the Teamsters union, comprised of transportation and public works employees, became one of the only major labor groups to opt <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/presidential\/3158467\/teamsters-members-back-trump-over-harris\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>against endorsing Harris<\/a>.
