As of Sunday morning, the storm\u2062 had resulted\u200b in at least 27 confirmed deaths across the southeastern United States,\u200b with the toll expected to increase due to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/officials-search-and-rescue-efforts-paused-due-to-concerns-over-possible-second-collapse\/\" title=\"Officials: Search and rescue efforts paused due to concerns over possible second collapse\">ongoing rescue efforts<\/a>. North Carolina&#8217;s\u200d city \u200bof Asheville was \u2063severely impacted, with floodwaters isolating the area \u2063and causing extensive damage, described as &#8220;Biblical&#8221; by local officials. Reports indicate that \u200dnumerous roads were washed out and power\u2062 was\u200c lost, leading to emergency responders \u2063airlifting supplies \u200dto affected communities. North \u200bCarolina has\u2064 recorded at\u2063 least 10 fatalities, and\u2062 an\u200d additional 17 \u2062deaths were \u2064reported in Georgia, including\u2063 children.\u2063 In Tennessee, \u200bofficials are\u200c currently searching for missing individuals amid \u200cdestroyed homes and washed-out infrastructure, as \u200dthe deluge greatly overwhelmed rivers and posed\u200b a threat to dams.\u200d the scale of destruction and\u200c loss in the region is significant, as local leaders emphasize the unprecedented nature \u2063of this disaster.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>President Joe Biden remained lounging at the beach this weekend while Appalachian valleys in North Carolina and Tennessee suffered deadly flooding from Hurricane Helene.<\/p>\n<p>As of Sunday morning, dozens <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/hurricane-helene-florida-georgia-north-carolina-south-carolina-92d5caaafe40644e1db687cf6431395f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">had died<\/a> across the southeastern United States, but the death toll is likely to rise following the torrential downpour from the Category 4 storm that smashed into the Big Bend of Florida on Thursday. <\/p>\n<p>Biden&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/rollcall.com\/factbase\/biden\/topic\/calendar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">public schedule<\/a> had him depart for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.capegazette.com\/article\/biden-expected-rehoboth-beach-beginning-sept-27\/281466#google_vignette\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Rehoboth Beach<\/a>, Delaware, on Friday, the day after the hurricane&rsquo;s initial landfall. He was initially expected to be there through late Sunday evening, but the president <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/biden-israel-hezbollah-war-af76d9ff367a9ebbc8685628276c484b\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reportedly<\/a> returned to Washington earlier on Sunday as tensions escalate in the Middle East.<\/p>\n<p>Floodwaters almost completely <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/wireStory\/asheville-largely-cut-off-after-helene-wrecked-roads-114319363\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">isolated<\/a> the North Carolina city of Asheville from the outside world, breaking roads and knocking out power and cell service. State officials are scrambling to airlift supplies into the region. The New York Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/09\/28\/us\/tennessee-deaths-hurricane-helene.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a> Saturday that in eastern Tennessee, officials are bracing residents for &ldquo;life lost&rdquo; after roughly half a dozen went missing when floodwaters similarly swept through idyllic mountain communities throughout the region, collapsing bridges and destroying homes.
