While it\u200b has since weakened to a tropical \u200cstorm with sustained \u200cwinds of 70 mph, the storm continues to \u2063pose serious concerns.\u200b It has resulted in over 200 flash flood \u200bwarnings in states including Florida, South Carolina,\u2064 Georgia, North Carolina,\u200d and Virginia,\u200b leading\u200c to \u200bat least \u206350 fatalities, including a first responder.<\/p>\n<p>In Tennessee, the storm&#8217;s flooding has\u200c raised alarms about a potential dam break that threatens over 5,800 residents, \u2062creating an imminent \u2064danger situation. (AP Photo\/Mike Carlson)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Since <a href=\"https:\/\/weather.com\/storms\/hurricane\/news\/2024-09-27-hurricane-helene-florida-georgia-landfall-flood-power-outages\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>making landfall<\/a>, Helene has caused at least 200 flash flooding warnings in Florida and in regions of South Carolina, Georgia, North Carolina, and Virginia. At least 50 people have been killed.<\/p>\n<p>Here&rsquo;s an update on the storm and its aftermath: <\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dam risk in Tennessee<\/h2>\n<p>Flooding caused by Helene has reached as far as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/Tennessee\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Tennessee<\/a>, prompting an imminent dam break warning and flash flood emergency in Cocke, Greene, and Hamblen counties. Those warnings have been extended until noon Eastern on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The dam break has been issued on the Nolichucky River below the Nolichucky Dam, and it threatens more than 5,800 residents. (AP Photo\/George Walker IV)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The warning comes as several rivers in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/North-Carolina\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>North Carolina<\/a> and eastern Tennessee have risen rapidly over the last two days. It could take days for those water levels to recede under critical levels.<\/p>\n<p>If the dam breaks, the flooding could result in &ldquo;an extremely dangerous and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/border-patrol-agents-rescue-toddlers-dropped-from-14-foot-barrier-at-border-into-u-s\/\" title=\"Border Patrol Agents Rescue Toddlers Dropped From 14-Foot Barrier At Border Into U.S.\">life-threatening situation<\/a>,&rdquo; according to the National Weather Service. <\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">At least 50 people died, including first responders<\/h2>\n<p>Fifty people across four states <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/hurricane-helene-florida-georgia-north-carolina-south-carolina-92d5caaafe40644e1db687cf6431395f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>have died<\/a> so far due to Helene, including at least one first responder, according to the National Weather Service.<\/p>\n<p>Of those casualties, 19 occurred in South Carolina. At least six of those were caused by trees falling on people, and details surrounding the other deaths are not yet known. Seven people have died in Florida and two in North Carolina.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Millions still without power<\/h2>\n<p>Even as the storm weakens, millions of people are still without power.
