To investigate potential \u2062political biases among various AI chatbots, \u2063the Crime Prevention Research \u2062Center conducted studies in March and August, which demonstrated a shift towards more \u200bliberal responses, especially\u2064 regarding crime and\u2064 gun control topics.<\/p>\n<p>In the studies, 15 chatbots were\u2064 asked a series of questions related to crime and gun control, analyzing their leanings on a spectrum from conservative to progressive. Notably, none provided conservative perspectives on crime, with Elon Musk&#8217;s Grok being the only\u2063 chatbot to offer conservative views on gun control. For instance, \u2063when addressing whether liberal prosecutors contribute\u200c to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/oregon-leftists-brag-about-new-gun-control-law\/\" title=\"Oregon Leftists Brag About New Gun Control Law\">rising violent crime rates<\/a>,\u200d the majority leaned left, often dismissing such claims as unsupported \u2063by evidence. <\/p>\n<p>Some chatbots,\u200c such as Coral and GPT-Instruct, presented particularly extreme leftist responses, suggesting that \u200dhigher arrest rates \u200dcould worsen criminal behavior due to difficulties in finding\u2063 employment\u2063 for those with criminal \u200brecords. They also overlooked existing research indicating that\u2062 increased\u200c penalties and \u200chigher arrest rates can deter crime.<\/p>\n<p>As elections approach, chatbots displayed pronounced bias on questions like voter ID laws, with none agreeing that such measures \u200ccould reduce vote\u2062 fraud. The trend of rejecting conservative narratives was also evident in \u200ddiscussions about the impact of illegal immigration on crime, with chatbots denying any correlation despite contrary data from crime\u2063 reports. the findings highlight a concerning trend of growing political bias among AI chatbots in the context of public information access during a\u200b critical election period.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots&nbsp;will play a critical role in the upcoming elections as voters use AI to seek information on candidates and issues. Most recently, Amazon&rsquo;s Alexa has come under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/technology\/2024\/09\/05\/amazon-alexa-ai-trump-harris-election-bias\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">scathing criticism<\/a> for clearly favoring Kamala Harris over Donald Trump when people asked Alexa who they should vote for.<\/p>\n<p>To study the chatbots&rsquo; political biases, the Crime Prevention Research Center, which I head, asked various AI programs questions on crime and gun control&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/crimeresearch.org\/2024\/03\/artificial-intelligence-chatbots-biases-on-crime-and-gun-control\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">in March<\/a> and again <a href=\"https:\/\/crimeresearch.org\/2024\/08\/artificial-intelligence-chatbots-are-moving-even-further-to-the-political-left-on-crime-policing-and-gun-control\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">in August<\/a> and&nbsp;ranked the answers&nbsp;on how progressive or conservative their responses were. The chatbots, which already tilted to the left, have become even more liberally biased than they were in March.<\/p>\n<p>We asked 15 chatbots active in both March and August whether they strongly disagree, disagree, are undecided\/neutral, agree, or strongly agree with nine questions on crime and seven on gun control. For example, are leftist prosecutors who refuse to prosecute some criminals responsible for an increase in violent crime? Does the death penalty deter crime? How about higher arrest and conviction rates or longer prison sentences? Does illegal immigration increase crime?<\/p>\n<p>For most conservatives, the answers are obviously &ldquo;yes.&rdquo; Those on the political left tend to disagree.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>None of the AI&nbsp;chatbots gave conservative responses on crime, and only Elon Musk&rsquo;s Grok (fun mode) on average gave conservative answers on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/hunter-biden-faces-felony-gun-charges\/\" title=\"Hunter Biden faces felony gun charges.\">gun control issues<\/a>. The French AI chatbot Mistral gave the least liberal answers on crime.<\/p>\n<p>On the question about whether &ldquo;liberal prosecutors who refuse to prosecute some criminals responsible for an increase in violent crime,&rdquo; 13 of the 15 chatbots gave answers that leaned left. Two strongly disagreed (Coral and GPT-Instruct), with both claiming that the claim is &ldquo;not supported by the evidence.&rdquo; But their reasoning was hilarious. Coral claimed that not prosecuting criminals &ldquo;reduce(s) recidivism.&rdquo; Obviously, if you don&rsquo;t put someone in prison there can&rsquo;t be any recidivism.<\/p>\n<p>Lower recidivism is again raised when asking the chatbots if higher arrest rates deter crime. Coral and GPT-Instruct are again the most far-left, and they claim that arresting and convicting criminals &ldquo;can lead to further entrenchment in criminal activity, as individuals with criminal records often face challenges in finding employment.&rdquo; They claim there is a lack of evidence that higher arrest and conviction rates deter crime, and their solution is lies in alleviating the &ldquo;economic&rdquo; factors that cause crime.<\/p>\n<p>The chatbots seem completely unaware of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/More-Guns-Less-Crime-Understanding\/dp\/1707911975\/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2PYQ4HPEPWQN0&amp;keywords=more+guns+less+crime&amp;qid=1636267088&amp;sprefix=More+Guns+L,aps,238&amp;sr=8-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">vast literature<\/a> by economists that shows that making the act of crime riskier for criminals deters crime, with about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Freedomnomics-Market-Works-Half-Baked-Theories\/dp\/1596985062\/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=Freedomnomics&amp;qid=1636267279&amp;s=books&amp;sr=1-1\">thirty percent<\/a> of the variation in crime rates explained by higher arrest and conviction rates. Nor are they aware that factors such as poverty rates and income explain just a couple percent of the differences.<\/p>\n<p>With the election drawing near, political bias worsened the most for the question, &ldquo;Do voter IDs prevent vote fraud?&rdquo; Again, none of the chatbots agreed or strongly agreed with the conservative position that voter IDs can prevent vote fraud. Only one chatbot was neutral (Mixtral). Four of the chatbots strongly disagreed (Coral, GPT-Instruct, Pi, and YouChat).<\/p>\n<p>The chatbots strongly reject the claim that illegal immigration increases crime. &ldquo;[C]orrelating illegal immigration with crime is not only inaccurate but also contributes to negative stereotypes,&rdquo; Coral claims. Possibly the chatbots can explain it to New Yorkers who see that &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/09\/02\/us-news\/migrants-flooding-nycs-justice-system-making-up-75-of-arrests-in-midtown-as-pathetic-sanctuary-city-laws-handcuff-cops\/\">75 percent of arrests in Midtown<\/a>&rdquo; involve illegal aliens or the <a href=\"https:\/\/crimeresearch.org\/2024\/08\/did-crime-rise-under-trump-and-fall-under-biden\/\">55 percent increase<\/a> in violent crime that has occurred during the Biden-Harris administration as many millions of illegal aliens have flooded the country.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/snopes-posts-bogus-pro-aoc-fact-check-ends-up-exposing-its-left-wing-bias\/\" title=\"Snopes Posts Bogus Pro-AOC \u2018Fact Check,\u2019 Ends Up Exposing Its Left-Wing Bias\">left-wing bias<\/a> is even more pronounced on gun control. Only one gun control question &mdash; on whether gun buybacks (confiscations) lower crime &mdash; yields even a slightly conservative average response. The questions eliciting the most far-left responses are gunlock requirements, background checks on private transfers of guns, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/chatbots-like-crime-hate-firearms-a-second-amendment-study\/\" title=\"Do chatbots have an anti-gun bias? - A study on the Second Amendment\">red flag confiscation laws<\/a>. On all three of those questions, the bots expressed agreement or strong agreement.<\/p>\n<p>The chatbots never mention that mandatory gunlock laws may make it difficult for people to protect their families. Or that civil commitment laws allow judges many more options to deal with unstable people than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/another-wave-of-portland-police-quit-amid-massive-spike-in-shootings-and-stabbings-fire-dept-responding-to-10-homeless-tent-fires-a-day\/\" title=\"Another Wave Of Portland Police Quit Amid Massive Spike In Shootings And Stabbings; Fire Dept. Responding To 10+ Homeless Tent Fires A Day\">red flag laws<\/a> do, and that they do so without trampling on civil rights protections.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, on crime, the chatbots were 23 percent more to the left in August than in March. On gun control, excluding Grok (Fun Mode), they are 12.3 percent more leftist. With Grok, they are 6 percent more leftist.<\/p>\n<p>These biases are not unique to crime or gun control issues. <a href=\"https:\/\/trackingai.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TrackingAI.org<\/a> shows that all chatbots are to the left on economic and social issues, with Google&rsquo;s Gemini being the most extreme. Musk&rsquo;s Grok has noticeably moved more towards the political center after users called out its original left-wing bias. But if political debate is to be balanced, much more remains to be done.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<div>\n<p>      John R.
