Don Bacon\u2064 (R-NE) advocates for other \u2063states\u2064 to adopt Nebraska&#8217;s electoral \u200dvote\u2064 distribution, which allocates votes by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-red-wave-of-conservative-women-elected-to-congress\/\" title=\"The Red Wave of Conservative Women Elected to Congress\">congressional district<\/a> rather\u200d than using\u2062 a winner-take-all approach, like most states. He\u2064 believes this system\u200b would encourage candidates to campaign \u2062more \u200cwidely across the country. However,\u2064 he acknowledged\u2064 that\u200c if \u2063the majority\u2064 of states continue to use\u2063 the winner-take-all method, Nebraska may not \u200cfunction effectively \u2063as an outlier. Recently, a last-minute attempt to change Nebraska&#8217;s system\u2064 to winner-take-all failed, as Governor Jim Pillen decided against\u200c calling a \u2063special \u200blegislative session \u2064due to insufficient support. However, he said if the other 48 states are using a winner-take-all system, the Cornhusker State won&rsquo;t work well as an outlier.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-paywall\">\n<p>A <span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\">last-minute effort to change Nebraska&rsquo;s system to winner-take-all&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/state\/3164929\/nebraska-gov-pillen-dashes-gop-hopes-special-session-revamp-electoral-votes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">failed<\/a>&nbsp;Tuesday. Gov. Jim Pillen (R-NE) said he would not call a special session after being unable to convince enough lawmakers to make the change before<\/span> the Nov. 5 election, saying in a statement that &ldquo;we have left every inch on the field to get this done.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Bacon, who faces a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/vulnerable-dem-senator-questions-biden-unemployment-policies\/\" title=\"Vulnerable Dem Senator Questions Biden Unemployment Policies\">tough reelection battle<\/a> in the state&rsquo;s swing 2nd Congressional District, made the case Tuesday for Nebraska&rsquo;s system to be used nationwide while <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/4897708-don-bacon-nebraska-electoral-system-change\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"on\">on<\/a> NewsNation&rsquo;s <em>The Hill<\/em>. However, he also admitted to problems that could come with its uniqueness.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Well, I think two things can be true. On one hand, I think we&rsquo;d be better off if every state does what we do in Nebraska. What it would do is incentivize candidates to campaign in more states and all over our country,&rdquo; Bacon said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He pointed out that because Nebraska and Maine are the only states that allocate their electoral votes by congressional district, it &ldquo;creates a lot of problems&rdquo; for his House race. Bacon also said the state should move forward with changing to a winner-take-all system after the November elections conclude.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I think we should probably do it after the election and get it right and go back to winner-take-all like 48 other states do. Now, if we had a plan to get all 50 states to go by district, that would be a good thing. I think it would be better. But we&rsquo;re only one of two states,&rdquo; Bacon said.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Bacon&rsquo;s seat is one of the most hotly contested House races and has been a swing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/breaking-real-clear-politics-say-they-never-called-pennsylvania\/\" title=\"BREAKING: Real Clear Politics -- SAY THEY NEVER CALLED PENNSYLVANIA\">electoral vote<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/republican-coalition-decries-treatment-of-jan-6-defendants-in-dc-gulag\/\" title=\"Republican Coalition Decries Treatment of Jan. 6 Defendants in &quot;DC Gulag&quot;\">recent presidential elections<\/a>.
