A whistleblower claims it was, and Senator Josh Hawley from Missouri is seeking clarification. In a letter to the acting director of the Secret Service last week, Hawley stated that the whistleblower possesses “direct knowledge of Secret Service protection” at Trump’s golf course, where would-be assassin Ryan Routh reportedly waited for hours with a firearm before being detected. Hawley noted in his letter that if this information is accurate, protocols should have prevented Routh from remaining undetected for such an extended period.

“My office has received new whistleblower information regarding the recent attempt on former President Trump’s life, raising serious concerns about Secret Service procedures that day,” Hawley’s letter stated. The whistleblower—who has previously provided security for Trump at this location—alleged there are “known vulnerabilities” in the fence surrounding the golf course that allow clear visibility to Trump and others playing there.

The whistleblower claimed it is standard procedure for agents to be stationed at these vulnerable points when Trump visits; however, this did not occur on September 15 when Routh attempted his attack. Instead, he was able to stay near or along the fence line for approximately 12 hours without detection.

Hawley also questioned whether agents conducted perimeter sweeps or utilized drones for surveillance during Trump’s visit. He emphasized that a potential assassin should never have been able to remain around the course undetected for so long.

In his correspondence with acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe, Hawley requested answers regarding their usual practices related to monitoring known vulnerabilities at Trump National Golf Course and whether proper security measures were taken prior to Trump’s arrival.

In an interview following his letter’s release on Jesse Watters’ Fox News show, Hawley remarked that “the Secret Service has protected that course many times.” He reiterated that protocol typically requires agents be positioned at identified weak spots but noted they apparently failed to do so during this incident—a deviation from established procedures.

There are two possible interpretations of these events: one suggests a significant lapse in protocol despite a previous assassination attempt just two months earlier; another posits ongoing issues with adherence to security measures since photographers have reportedly been able to capture images of Trump playing golf without much difficulty due to inadequate oversight by Secret Service agents.

This situation raises serious questions about either a critical one-time failure or an ongoing pattern of negligence—both scenarios could have endangered Trump’s life.
