They ⁣assert that the AAP’s claims about the use of puberty-blocking drugs being “reversible” ⁣are misleading and fail to acknowledge the serious long-term⁢ consequences ⁣these treatments⁤ can have on children’s health. The attorneys general cite⁢ a 2024 comprehensive review known as the Cass report, which outlines potential irreversible harm from these interventions, including impaired brain development and compromised ⁤bone density.

The letter criticizes the AAP for basing its recommendations on the ⁣World Professional Association for ⁢Transgender ‌Health (WPATH), a group they accuse of propagating ideologically-driven medical practices without ⁤solid⁢ backing.‌ Investigative findings revealed that WPATH has acknowledged in ⁣private communications the risks of these treatments but does not properly inform⁤ parents ⁤or children. The letter cites an April 2024 comprehensive research review commissioned by the United Kingdom’s health service, known as the “Cass report.” It found the irreversible negative consequences of puberty-blocking drugs can include:

interfering with brain development

compromising healthy bone density

damages to metabolic health, or the body’s ability to use energy efficiently, leading to weight gain, weight loss, and other health problems

loss of normal experiences of puberty.

The attorneys general say AAP relied on politics rather than medicine in making its transgender recommendations for children, by largely copying the medical recommendations of an activist organization called the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH).

Earlier this year, investigative reporters Michael Shellenberger and Mia Hughes published the “WPATH Files” that show many of the organization’s claims were backed by nothing but ideology, and its members privately acknowledged that. The internal communications from WPATH showed its members “frequently discuss improvising treatments as they go along” and they’re aware neither the parents nor the children they treat are often properly informed of the risks of transgender procedures, which can include fertility loss, lifelong weeping from open wounds, and more.

“These internal communications reveal that WPATH advocates for many arbitrary medical practices, including hormonal and surgical experimentation on minors and vulnerable adults,” says a report organizing the WPATH disclosures. “Its approach to medicine is consumer-driven and pseudoscientific, and its members appear to be engaged in political activism, not science.”

The WPATH Files also showed, as The New York Times reported, that a top Biden administration health official, the transgender man Rachel Levine, successfully pressured WPATH to erase age limit recommendations for these risky procedures. Some doctors have carried double mastectomies out on girls as young as 12.

The AAP has publicly declared it relies on WPATH’s “standards of care” for kids with gender dysphoria in making its medical recommendations that thousands of doctors follow across the United States. The Biden Department of Justice cites both WPATH and the WPATH-relying AAP as medical authorities in its legal efforts to force states to allow transgender interventions on children.

Several studies have shown that the majority of children experiencing gender dysphoria naturally accept their sex after puberty, especially if they have not undergone transgender treatments.

The attorneys general indicate they may be preparing legal action against AAP under state consumer protection laws that penalize false statements about products and services. As an intermediate investigatory step, the legal officers request that AAP provide written responses to 14 questions that include:

“Provide substantiation for the AAP’s claims that the 2018 AAP policy statement and subsequent reaffirmation are ‘evidence driven, nonpartisan and rigorously reviewed’ and ‘reflect the latest evidence in the field.’”

“Provide substantiation for the AAP’s claims that puberty blockers are reversible when used to treat adolescents suffering from gender dysphoria.”

“Provide a copy of all communications the AAP has had regarding the 2018 AAP policy statement, transgender care, WPATH, SOC8, <a href="https://www.conservativenewsdaily.net/breaking-news/very-complicated-dr-rachel-levine-dodges-sen-pauls-issue-about-sex-adjustments-for-children/" title="‘Very Complicated’: Dr. Rachel Levine Dodges Sen. In a letter issued today, the attorneys general argue that this approach may breach state consumer protection laws that mandate truthful representation in the marketing of products and services. They assert that the AAP has strayed from sound medical practices in treating children diagnosed with gender dysphoria.

The AAP’s 2018 policy statement claims that puberty-blocking medications are “reversible,” a characterization the legal officials deem misleading and deceptive. They contend it is well-established in medical discussions that these blockers can have serious long-term effects and are not entirely reversible, calling for an immediate retraction of this claim.

In response to inquiries, AAP spokesperson Lisa Robinson stated she had not yet reviewed the letter. The correspondence references a comprehensive research review from April 2024 conducted by the UK’s health service, known as the “Cass report,” which identified irreversible adverse effects associated with puberty blockers, including impacts on brain development, bone density issues, metabolic health complications leading to weight fluctuations, and loss of typical puberty experiences.

The attorneys general criticize the AAP for relying more on political influences than scientific evidence when formulating its transgender recommendations for minors—largely mirroring guidance from an activist group called the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH). Investigative work earlier this year revealed through documents dubbed “WPATH Files” that many assertions made by WPATH were ideologically driven rather than scientifically supported. Internal communications indicated members often improvised treatments without adequately informing parents or children about potential risks associated with transgender procedures.

These disclosures suggest WPATH promotes arbitrary medical practices involving hormonal and surgical experimentation on minors and vulnerable adults while prioritizing consumer-driven approaches over scientific rigor. Additionally, it was reported that Rachel Levine—a prominent health official in Biden’s administration—pressured WPATH to remove age restrictions related to these high-risk procedures.

The AAP has publicly acknowledged its reliance on WPATH’s standards when making recommendations followed by numerous physicians across America. The Biden Department of Justice also cites both WPATH and AAP as authoritative sources in legal efforts aimed at compelling states to permit transgender interventions for minors.

Research indicates most children experiencing gender dysphoria tend to align with their biological sex after puberty if they do not undergo transgender treatments. The attorneys general hint at possible legal action against the AAP under state consumer protection laws due to false claims regarding products and services offered. As part of their investigation process, they have requested written responses from the AAP addressing several specific questions related to their policies and communications concerning transgender care

[546
9550,41595,34659,3976,41596
post-2345235","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-the-federalist","tag-ags","tag-doctor-organization","tag-false-claims","tag-investigation","tag-transgender-children
["GET
