The piece, penned by leftist media columnist Jim Rutenberg, was headlined, “Trump is Testing the Norms of Objectivity in Journalism.” The solution, Rutenberg argued, was to give up on objectivity.

“If you’re a working journalist and you believe that Donald J. Trump is a demagogue playing to the nation’s worst racist and nationalistic tendencies, that he cozies up to anti-American dictators and that he would be dangerous with control of the United States nuclear codes, how the heck are you supposed to cover him?” he feverishly wrote.

Well, Rutenberg effectively opined to Trump-hating colleagues who didn’t need much coaxing. He conceded that it might not always “seem fair to Mr. Trump or his supporters,” but who cares about fairness when the world is watching?

“It is journalism’s job to be true to the readers and viewers, and true to the facts, in a way that will stand up to history’s judgment. To do anything less would be untenable,” Rutenberg asserted. Any illusion of fairness was shattered in the column; most living on the corporate media commune followed his advice to the letter.

‘Where It Gets Very Dangerous’

Things, as fatigued and frustrated Americans well know, have only gotten worse since.

“The media is wholly in the tank in a way that it wasn’t even when we started this book a year and a half ago,” Walsh said. “We were guessing that sometime around the election the media would disgrace itself. We just had no idea how badly they would disgrace themselves.”

Really badly, it turns out. From memory-holing July’s assassination attempt to the ABC-moderated debate that proved an extension of Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign to accusing Trump of triggering would-be assassins, it seems as bad as it can get.

But wait … there’s more.

Since Covid and the 2020 election, the practitioners of selective objectivity have been working with the Deep State’s version of the Ministry of Truth to silence “disinformation,” “misinformation,” and “malinformation.” Walsh said they’ve traded in the First Amendment for conformity and consensus. The corporate media’s aggressive stance against former President Donald Trump and his supporters warrants disdain. Renowned journalist and media analyst Michael Walsh argues that people likely do not harbor enough contempt for today’s American journalism landscape. In a recent episode of “The Federalist Radio Hour,” Walsh stated, “You think you can, but you haven’t fully grasped how much you can detest these individuals.”

Walsh is the editor and contributor to a revealing new book titled *Against the Corporate Media: Forty-two Ways the Press Hates You*, which features over two dozen essays from some of today’s most insightful thinkers. The book examines how journalism has deteriorated from a respected blue-collar profession into an elitist “consensus” field that has forsaken editorial integrity—and even the First Amendment—in favor of advancing a leftist agenda.

While Walsh and his co-authors drew upon numerous instances of unethical behavior within journalism for their book, it was published prior to recent events showcasing corporate media’s absurdity. For instance, they could not address how certain outlets blamed Trump’s campaign rhetoric for an assassination attempt against him or dismissed serious allegations involving Haitian refugees harming local wildlife in Springfield, Ohio; however, they do provide context on how we arrived at this point.

NBC News anchor Lester Holt echoed sentiments shared by other corporate journalists when he remarked that Trump’s second assassination attempt within two months occurred amid increasingly heated campaign rhetoric. Walsh mockingly criticized this framing by the anti-Trump press as part of a pattern where they previously urged conservative politicians to “lower the temperature” following violent incidents linked to Trump rallies.

Journalists have long engaged in left-leaning activism through their reporting; however, things escalated dramatically after Trump’s unexpected victory in 2016. A New York Times article from August 2016 declared war on journalistic objectivity regarding Trump’s candidacy—arguing that if journalists believed he posed significant dangers due to his actions and affiliations, then abandoning objectivity was justified.

Since then, according to Walsh, media bias has intensified significantly: “The media is wholly in the tank now more than ever.” He noted that while they anticipated disgraceful behavior around election time when writing their book over a year ago, they were unprepared for just how far it would go.

In addition to downplaying serious threats like assassination attempts against Trump or turning political debates into extensions of partisan campaigns against him, there are broader concerns about freedom of speech being compromised under pressure from what Walsh describes as conformity-driven agendas—trading First Amendment rights for adherence to prevailing narratives.

Walsh emphasizes that this pursuit leads journalists away from essential principles necessary for free governance: “Where one cannot claim ownership over their own voice or opinions,” he warns, “they risk losing ownership over everything else.” This abandonment poses significant dangers as journalists prioritize what he calls a “higher loyalty” beyond constitutional protections—a sentiment reminiscent of former FBI Director James Comey’s claims about prioritizing higher loyalties than legal obligations

[546
35048,36489,33295,36362,36174
post-2342732","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-the-federalist","tag-corporate-media","tag-journalism-ethics","tag-media-criticism","tag-media-literacy","tag-public-perception
["GET
