This initiative, led by Rep. Mike Garcia (R-CA), was approved through a procedural vote that did not require the entire House to be present. The legislation follows warnings from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) about a $3 billion shortfall in funding needed for the current fiscal year ending on September 30. The VA cautioned that if additional funding is not secured by September 20, nearly 7 million veterans could face benefit reductions.<\/p>\n
Garcia’s bill mandates that the VA provide Congress with a report detailing the funding shortage and establish future accountability measures to ensure proper management of funds.
