Concerns over the current outbreak and rising cases in the Democratic Republic of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/congo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Congo<\/a> prompted the meeting.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-paywall\">\n<p>There are currently two known strains, clade I and clade II, with the first strain proving to be the most concerning at the moment. The discussion focused primarily on containing the clade I strain of monkeypox, which is &ldquo;endemic in the DRC.&rdquo; The Biden-Harris administration declared that &ldquo;global mpox response and domestic preparedness efforts are top priorities&rdquo; for the administration.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;By building on the lessons learned from the mpox outbreak response in 2022, the U.S. will continue to lead the way, globally and domestically, to be more prepared to respond to any biological threat,&rdquo; said Homeland Security Advisor Dr. Liz Sherwood-Randall. &ldquo;We must also continue to partner with trusted community organizations, academic researchers, and civil society actors across the international community to promote the dissemination of information, support the early detection of cases, and ensure the rapid deployment of countermeasures.
