The Democrat who has served as the southeast Florida county&rsquo;s sheriff for 20 years &mdash; and is <a href=\"https:\/\/gotowncrier.com\/2024\/08\/sheriff-bradshaw-faces-primary-challenge-in-bid-for-sixth-term\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">seeking<\/a> a sixth term in November &mdash; uttered the same tired reasons for Sunday afternoon&rsquo;s security lapse while the 45th president was playing a round at his Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach.<\/p>\n<h2>&lsquo;Horrendous and Unacceptable&rsquo;<\/h2>\n<p>At a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=hXi5MMoxP20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">press conference<\/a> Sunday, after a man was spotted in the club&rsquo;s shrubbery and <a href=\"https:\/\/abc7.com\/post\/shots-fired-trump-former-pres-is-safe-after-gunshots-were-reported-vicinity-florida-secret-service-campaign-say\/15306625\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&ldquo;in a position to shoot the former president,&rdquo;<\/a> Bradshaw was asked how this could happen again. How could a gunman get so close once more?&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;At this level that he is at right now, [Trump] is not the sitting president,&rdquo; Bradshaw told reporters. &ldquo;If he was, we would have this entire golf course surrounded. But because he&rsquo;s not, security is limited to the areas the Secret Service deems possible.&rdquo;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The same lame excuses were offered following the assassination attempt against Trump at his <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/07\/13\/trump-wounded-after-gunshots-ring-out-at-pa-rally-defiantly-pumps-fist-after-apparent-assassination-attempt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">July 13 campaign rally<\/a> in Butler, Pennsylvania. Trump suffered a gun shot wound to the ear, while two rally-goers were seriously injured and Corey Comperatore<strong>,<\/strong> a volunteer firefighter and Trump supporter, was murdered. The 20-year-old would-be assassin was fatally shot by a Secret Service sharp shooter, but not until <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/07\/24\/us-news\/secret-service-took-6-seconds-to-stop-trump-gunman-thomas-crooks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">he fired<\/a> eight rounds. Apparently Trump getting shot in the head and coming within centimeters of being a dead former president wasn&rsquo;t enough of a wake-up call for the people sworn to protect the GOP presidential candidate&rsquo;s life.<\/p>\n<p>The Secret Service&rsquo;s epic failure remains under investigation on multiple fronts. Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., ranking member of the Senate&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hsgac.senate.gov\/subcommittees\/investigations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations<\/a> looking into the July assassination attempt, said the &ldquo;he&rsquo;s a former president&rdquo; excuse doesn&rsquo;t cut it.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;No, he&rsquo;s a former President who was struck by an assassin&rsquo;s bullet two months ago, and who Iran and others continue to plot against,&rdquo; Johnson wrote Sunday on his X account. &ldquo;Two attempts in a little over 60 days. It&rsquo;s a bad policy, and it needs to stop.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Trump isn&rsquo;t just any candidate. He is the former president, just one president removed. He&rsquo;s the Republican Party&rsquo;s candidate for president.
