The indictment was brought by U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves, Chief Jessica M. E. During the protest, participants pulled down flags, burned objects, and sprayed graffiti on various statues and structures in the area. Tips received by the U.S. Park Police on Aug. 1 led to her identification and arrest, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-dc\/media\/1367721\/dl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>according<\/a> to an affidavit.<\/p>\n<p>The National Park Service estimates that repairing the total damage from the protest will cost approximately $11,282.23. While it is not immediately clear the amount of damage Giordano allegedly caused, she is charged under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/uscode\/text\/18\/1361\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>18 U.S. Code &sect; 1361<\/a>, which carries a penalty of fines and up to 10 years in prison if the damage to property exceeds a sum of $1,000.<\/p>\n<p>Giordano was scheduled to appear in U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., on Friday afternoon. The investigation is being led by the U.S. Park Police&rsquo;s Intelligence and Counterterrorism Unit, alongside the FBI Washington Field Office, and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah Martin.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/dc-md-va\/2024\/07\/26\/dc-netanyahu-protests-dropped-charges\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Around 25 people<\/a> were arrested in relation to the protest that day, though a previous <em>Washington Examiner <\/em>investigation <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/3100234\/at-least-11-anti-israel-protesters-have-cases-dropped-dc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>found<\/a> only about half of those people were charged with various crimes. Some of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/donald-trump-indicted-georgia-pardon-law-under-scrutiny\/\" title=\"Georgia&#039;s pardon law under scrutiny as Donald Trump faces indictment.\">individuals facing charges<\/a> were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/3101274\/eight-anti-israel-protesters-face-federal-charges-dc-prosecutors-drop-cases\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>slated to appear<\/a> either in-person or remotely at the D.C.
