This order, issued by Judge Juan Merchan, prohibits Trump from making negative comments about the prosecutors from Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office and court staff. The court’s brief ruling stated that there was no significant constitutional issue at stake, thus maintaining the gag order until Trump’s sentencing on November 26. A jury had previously found Trump guilty of falsifying business records to conceal hush money payments made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels during the 2016 election campaign. Although two judges recused themselves from this decision without explanation, all seven judges involved were appointed by Democratic governors. Initially, the gag order also restricted Trump from criticizing key witnesses and jurors; however, in June, Judge Merchan lifted those specific restrictions while still protecting court personnel and related family members. In response to the ruling, Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung called the gag order unconstitutional and asserted that Trump would continue to challenge it.
