Tim Walz, the Democratic vice presidential nominee, emphasized ⁣a “golden rule”‍ for Minnesotans in relation to reproductive issues: “Mind your own⁤ damn business.” In contrast, ⁣the article argues from ⁤a pro-life perspective, contending that⁤ it is important to advocate for children’s rights to life ⁢rather than ignoring these ⁤issues.

It highlights ⁤the ethical concerns surrounding IVF, noting that ⁤only a small percentage (2-7%) of lab-created embryos survive to birth, while many others⁣ are disposed of or not viable. The article distinguishes between conventional IVF and more ethical approaches to fertility, such as “mini-IVF” and “natural cycle IVF” as practiced by the Christian clinic Rejoice Fertility. However, it maintains that even these methods involve moral dilemmas concerning the fate of any embryo created.

Furthermore, ‌the article advocates for natural family planning (NFP)⁣ techniques and surgical options that address‍ underlying fertility issues without the ethical complexities ‍associated with IVF. The center conducts “mini-IVF” and “natural cycle” IVF with a “no discard” approach. Mini-IVF elicits fewer eggs for retrieval, resulting in fewer leftover embryos, and the natural cycle approach fertilizes the woman’s single ovulated egg each month.

Though a Christian approach to IVF is commendable, even if only one embryo is created and transferred, trial and error with that one, full person, is still occurring. Participants are then responsible for the death, if this occurs, of that one human person, a blame which never falls on couples participating in the co-creation process that God conducts within the mysterious sanctuary of the mother’s body. Instead of IVF — a procedure that experiments with human lives while potentially masking treatable health conditions — natural family planning (NFP) and various surgical procedures to allow natural conception should be promoted.

Natural Family Planning

The most common NFP methods are the Marquette Model, the Billings Ovulation Method, and the Creighton Model, and all are used to diagnose and treat underlying causes of infertility through various identifiers such as cervical mucus and fluctuating hormone levels.

Naprotechnology (NPT), a form of infertility treatment that uses the Creighton model, seeks to treat the underlying afflictions causing conception difficulties and frequent miscarriages, such as endometriosis, polycystic ovarian syndrome, thyroid disorders, and uterine polyps and fibroids. Another couple, Carolyn and Nic, diagnosed with infertility after six months of not conceiving, were handed a pamphlet for IVF and offered limited further diagnostic testing. This respect is not afforded to those beginning their lives in laboratories, as every step leading up to their existence is overseen not solely under the gaze of the loving God, but also beneath the oversight of scientists chiefly concerned with calculating potential outcomes. Their calculations guarantee that IVF intentionally brings human life into existence with the full knowledge that not all will survive, if any — and this experimentation with human beings certainly is “our damn business,” Mr. Walz.

Katie Breckenridge is operations administrator and contributing writer for the children’s rights organization Them Before Us. The procedure leads to the disposal or non-survival of millions of embryos due to various factors such as unsuccessful transfers or thawing processes.

Some may argue that IVF is acceptable if only one egg is retrieved, fertilized, and implanted at a time—like the approach taken by Rejoice Fertility clinic in Knoxville, Tennessee. This clinic practices “mini-IVF” and “natural cycle” IVF with a commitment not to discard any embryos. Mini-IVF retrieves fewer eggs, resulting in fewer leftover embryos while natural cycle IVF focuses on fertilizing one egg each month.

While this Christian approach is commendable, even creating just one embryo still involves trial and error with that individual life. If complications arise leading to its death during the process, responsibility falls on the participants rather than acknowledging God’s role in co-creating within the sanctity of motherhood. Instead of resorting to IVF—which experiments with human lives while potentially overlooking treatable health issues—natural family planning (NFP) methods and surgical interventions aimed at facilitating natural conception should be encouraged.

The most prevalent NFP methods include the Marquette Model, Billings Ovulation Method, and Creighton Model—all designed for diagnosing and treating infertility by monitoring indicators like cervical mucus and hormone levels. Naprotechnology (NPT), which utilizes the Creighton model for infertility treatment aims at addressing underlying conditions causing difficulties with conception or recurrent miscarriages such as endometriosis or polycystic ovarian syndrome. NPT boasts success rates up to 80%, significantly higher than those associated with IVF.

For instance, Ashley and Jeff shared how they were told by multiple specialists they would need IVF but successfully conceived their son within a month after engaging fully with NPT’s learning process. Similarly, Carolyn and Nic faced infertility after six months without success; upon discovering NPT through limited options presented by doctors—including pamphlets for IVF—they pursued it instead and eventually welcomed two daughters.

Regarding endometriosis treatment options: while ablation techniques can help remove tissue from around lesions on the uterus surface—often leading back into fertility issues due to scar tissue formation—excision surgery targets scar tissue more effectively at its source preventing further complications related to fertility cycles. A study involving 239 patients showed an impressive 80% success rate post-surgery among previously infertile individuals attempting conception afterward.

Kristen Mihaly experienced challenges from endometriosis but found relief through surgical NPT treatments aimed at reducing adhesions; she became pregnant shortly thereafter despite previous attempts being dismissed by traditional clinics focused solely on providing IVF solutions without addressing her specific health concerns.

Ovarian drilling—a method used primarily for polycystic ovarian syndrome—can also lead toward pregnancy but may result in adhesions hindering fertility too; however Ovarian Wedge Resection (OWR) offers an alternative solution where part of androgen-producing tissue is removed allowing normal hormonal function restoration without increasing adhesion risks—a study indicated an impressive 78% conception rate within six months following this procedure among patients treated via OWR surgeries.

These treatments are not universally applicable but present vital alternatives couples should consider before immediately opting for IVF solutions.
Jesus exemplified respect from his very inception; similarly every human being deserves recognition regardless if created naturally or artificially under laboratory conditions where outcomes are calculated based solely on scientific interests rather than divine oversight—the implications surrounding these choices certainly warrant attention beyond mere personal boundaries as Mr.Walz suggested.

Katie Breckenridge serves as operations administrator alongside contributing writer roles within Them Before Us—a children’s rights organization—and holds advanced degrees focusing on mental health dynamics along trauma-informed practices while pursuing bioethics studies additionally publishing works across various platforms including The Times & Scotsman through research associate positions held previously related Scottish Council Human Bioethics endeavors

[21332,4606,32468,36113
post-2337710","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","tag-alternatives","tag-healthcare","tag-ivf","tag-tim-walz
["GET
