Additionally, Pelosi&#8217;s \u200brecent voting record suggests she supports measures\u2063 that could grant undocumented immigrants the ability to vote,\u2064 raising further discussions about immigration policy within the Democratic Party.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Former Democrat House Speaker Nancy Pelosi celebrated a bill that would allow illegal immigrants to buy homes with taxpayer loans in her home state of California.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Making the American dream of homeownership available to all people is something we have to do,&rdquo; the Bay Area congresswoman said in a Friday interview with Bill Maher. <\/p>\n<p>Pelosi was responding to a question about state lawmakers <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/08\/29\/california-democrats-pass-bill-offering-up-to-150k-in-assistance-for-illegals-to-buy-homes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">passing<\/a> a bill last week to expand eligibility for a government program which offers residents home down payment assistance. Under Assembly Bill 1840, the California Housing Finance Authority would be compelled to consider applications from illegal immigrants for the &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/california-would-give-undocumented-first-time-homebuyers-funds-despite-budget-deficit-advances\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Dream for All Program<\/a>.&rdquo; The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.calhfa.ca.gov\/dream\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fund<\/a> gives first-time homebuyers loan assistance of up to 20 percent of a property&rsquo;s value with a cap of $150,000. Gavin Newsom, D-Calif., has not signaled whether he will sign or veto the recent housing law, but a program in neighboring Oregon <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/08\/23\/tax-funded-group-offering-30000-for-non-citizen-homebuyers-in-oregon-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">offers<\/a> non-resident homebuyers $30,000 for down payments.<\/p>\n<p>When Maher pressed Pelosi on her support for proposals to spend tax dollars on homes for people who are &ldquo;undocumented,&rdquo; the former House leader said &ldquo;What I would like to do is move them to documented.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Pelosi&rsquo;s opposition to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/118th-congress\/house-bill\/8281\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act<\/a> this summer implies the &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/house\/3757247-house-panel-votes-to-designate-pelosi-speaker-emerita\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">speaker emerita<\/a>&rdquo; also supports turning illegal immigrants into registered voters. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/118th-congress\/house-bill\/8281\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">legislation<\/a>, proposed by Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, is still waiting for substantive action in the upper chamber.<\/p>\n<p>California is ranked among the worst for housing nationwide as Americans and immigrants alike cope with a coast-to-coast shortage of affordable homes.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/zillow.mediaroom.com\/2024-06-18-The-U-S-is-now-short-4-5-million-homes-as-the-housing-deficit-grows\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">According<\/a> to Zillow, the U.S. was short of more than 4.5 million units in 2022, with Los Angeles, San Francisco, Riverside, San Diego, Sacramento, and San Jose each ranked in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ca-dems-could-offer-up-to-150000-for-illegals-to-buy-homes\/\" title=\"CA Dems Could Offer Up To 0,000 For Illegals To Buy Homes\">top 50 major metropolitan areas facing<\/a> the highest housing deficits.<\/p>\n<p>Lawmakers in Washington, D.C. are now evaluating proposals to open up vast tracts of federal land to build additional houses.
