She endorsed Biden’s economic strategies, labeled as‍ “Bidenomics”, and expressed her intention to implement measures like expanding ⁣the child tax credit and offering a significant tax credit for ‍first-time homebuyers.

2. ‍**Policy Positions**: The vice president faced scrutiny‍ for changing policy stances, specifically around‍ fracking and ⁣immigration. Harris confirmed that she would not ban fracking, maintaining that it could coexist with a clean energy economy. On⁣ immigration, she emphasized‌ the necessity of enforcing existing laws.

3. ⁤**Political Challenges**: Harris’s responses indicated an awareness of the pressures from progressive factions ‍within the Democratic Party, particularly regarding environmental issues and the ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict. She stated her commitment to a two-state solution without endorsing an arms ‌embargo ⁣against Israel, which some liberal Democrats demand.

4. **Support for Biden**:⁣ Throughout⁤ the⁣ interview, Harris defended her loyalty ⁣to Biden, underscoring his character and dedication to the American people, despite facing⁤ criticism surrounding the administration and‌ Biden’s⁢ decision to suspend his campaign.

5. **Criticism from ‌the Left**: The interview underscored the potential challenges Harris may face from more progressive‌ members of the party, especially in light of her policies and positions on significant issues like climate change and foreign policy.

This summary ‍encapsulates the significant points Harris discussed and the dynamics of her candidacy in the upcoming election, offering insight into her ⁣approach ‍as a Democratic nominee. That priority indicates the vice president and her campaign are cognizant that the economy may decide the election.

“First and foremost, one of my highest priorities, is to do what we can to support and strengthen the middle class,” Harris said. “Day one, it’s going to be about implementing my plan for what I call an opportunity economy. I’ve already laid out a number of proposals in that regard, which include what we’re going to do to bring down the cost of everyday goods, what we’re going to do to invest in America’s small businesses.”

Harris also pointed to expanding the child tax credit to $6,000 for families for the first year of their child’s life and a tax credit of $25,000 for first-time homebuyers.

When asked why she has not introduced any of those policies as vice president, Harris contended she and Biden had to lead the post-pandemic economic recovery.

“We have done that,” Harris said. “I’m very proud of the work that we have done that has brought inflation down to less than 3%, the work that we have done to cap the cost of insulin at $35 a month for seniors.

Additionally citing manufacturing jobs, Harris added, “there’s more to do, but that’s good work.”

Policy flip-flops

In a clip circulated before the interview aired in its entirety, Harris underscored that her “values have not changed,” despite many of her policy positions changing.

Harris was specifically pressed on her fracking position, a divisive issue in Pennsylvania, and whether illegal border crossings should be decriminalized.

“No,” Harris said when asked whether she still supported a ban on fracking. “I made that clear on the debate stage in 2020, that I would not ban fracking. Those who have questioned the depth of her campaign might find themselves with more inquiries than responses, especially regarding her policy stances and how they diverge from President Joe Biden’s. During the interview, she defended her support for Biden despite concerns about his age and mental fitness, while also rejecting calls for an arms embargo against Israel amid its ongoing conflict with Hamas in Gaza. Here are six key points from her conversation with CNN at Kim’s Cafe in Savannah, Georgia, alongside Democratic vice presidential nominee Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN), just 68 days before the November election.

1. **Day One Priorities**: Harris emphasized that supporting the middle class would be a top priority on day one of her presidency, backing Biden’s economic policies known as “Bidenomics.” She highlighted plans to reduce everyday costs and invest in small businesses while proposing an expansion of child tax credits and incentives for first-time homebuyers.

2. **Policy Changes**: In a pre-interview clip, Harris asserted that although some of her policy positions have evolved over time, her core values remain unchanged. She specifically addressed questions about fracking—stating she does not support a ban—and reiterated that illegal border crossings must be dealt with according to existing laws.

3. **Pressure from Progressives**: When discussing climate change initiatives like the Green New Deal, Harris acknowledged its importance but faced scrutiny from progressive groups like the Sunrise Movement for not committing to more aggressive actions against climate change.

4. **Israel-Gaza Conflict Stance**: As tensions rise around the anniversary of the Israel-Hamas war coinciding with college students returning to campuses nationwide, Harris maintained there would be no shift towards an arms embargo against Israel—a stance that has drawn criticism from more liberal factions within her party.

5. **Defending Biden**: In response to questions about supporting Biden after his debate performance led him to suspend his campaign earlier this year, Harris expressed no regrets and praised his dedication and intelligence as essential qualities for leadership compared to former President Trump.

6. **Joint Interview Dynamics**: The joint format of this interview raised eyebrows among critics who noted it was unusual given their relatively new partnership; both candidates faced scrutiny over their past statements but used this opportunity to highlight their shared vision moving forward.

Overall, while some may find clarity in certain areas during this interview with Vice President Harris regarding key issues facing voters today—such as economic recovery or foreign policy—the lingering questions surrounding specific policies could continue fueling debate within both moderate and progressive circles leading up to November’s election

[3620,38765,4021
post-2334004","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","tag-biden","tag-gaza-war","tag-harris
["GET
