The findings are ⁣critical of ⁣the‍ FBI,‌ indicating ⁤that the agency ⁢has not improved its practices since previous scandals, particularly regarding the failures associated⁤ with Lawrence Nassar, ⁣a ‌former ⁢doctor for the USA ⁤Gymnastics team who abused numerous victims. In response to this tip, an FBI field office opened a full investigation into the matter about 2 weeks later.

“In January 2022, the FBI field office that opened the investigation set a lead to a second field office requesting an interview of the victim but we did not identify evidence that the victim was interviewed or offered victim services.

“At the time of our review, the most recent substantive investigative activity documented in the case file was over 7 months old and documented in August 2022.

“We did not identify any referrals to the SLTT law enforcement agency with jurisdiction or the subject’s probationary officer.”

Worse yet, once this incident was flagged, the FBI acted “over 1 year after receipt of allegations” to collect more incriminating evidence against the subject.

Another example of prolonged FBI inaction came when the audit chronicled an incident in May 2022.

“In May 2022, NTOC received an anonymous complaint of sex trafficking of unknown minors and drug trafficking by an identified subject.31 NTOC transferred this complaint to the appropriate FBI field office, but we did not identify any evidence of verbal contact between NTOC and the FBI field office, as required by FBI policy,” the audit noted. “Despite the sex trafficking of minors allegation, the first investigative activities documented in the case file by the FBI field office assigned the complaint were completed approximately 5 and 8 months after the receipt of the allegation.”

Yet another example provided by the audit noted that a separate investigation was “inappropriately placed on pending inactive status” and didn’t include any proper referrals.

The audit recommends a number of fixes and solutions.

* Name

*

* Message

* All fields are required.

Success!

     function firefly_sc() { if( typeof window.captchaPublicKey==typeof undefined ){ console.error('window.captchaPublicKey is not defined'); } grecaptcha.execute( window.captchaPublicKey, { action: 'submit_correction' } ).then( function( token ) { var opts={ action: 'firefly_sc_submit', name: document.querySelector( '.entry-submit-correction [name="name"]' ).value, : document.querySelector( '.entry-submit-correction [name=""]' ).value, message: document.querySelector( '.entry-submit-correction [name="message"]' ).value, post_id: firefly_post_id, cap_token: token } var inputs=[ 'name', '', 'message' ]; for( var i=0; i <inputs.length; i++ ) if( ! The DOJ clearly stated that the audit aimed to assess the FBI’s adherence to laws, regulations, and policies concerning reports of direct sexual offenses against children and mandatory reporting of suspected abuse. The term “hands-on” sex offense refers to crimes involving physical sexual contact.

This audit followed up on issues highlighted in a July 2021 report by the Inspector General about how the FBI dealt with allegations against Lawrence Gerard Nassar, a former doctor for Michigan State University and Team USA gymnastics who sexually abused numerous girls and women. Nassar is currently serving a lengthy prison sentence after pleading guilty to multiple charges, including possession of child pornography.

While Nassar has faced some justice for his actions, questions remain about how he was able to operate unchecked for so long—questions that have been raised by prominent figures like gymnast Simone Biles who have criticized the FBI’s role in this matter. The recent audit suggests that little improvement has occurred since Nassar’s case; CNN reported that it indicates ongoing mishandling by the FBI regarding allegations of child sexual abuse following their previous failures in investigating Nassar.

The audit detailed specific instances where the FBI failed to act promptly on reports of abuse. For example, an allegation received in December 2021 about a registered sex offender engaging with a minor was not fully investigated until two weeks later, and there were no records showing that victim services were offered or that key interviews took place within an appropriate timeframe. Another case from May 2022 involved anonymous complaints about sex trafficking but showed significant delays before any investigative action was taken.

Overall, these findings highlight serious deficiencies within the FBI’s response protocols related to child protection cases and suggest several recommendations for improvement moving forward

[33651
4261,39697,5591,21619,35975
post-2333747","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-the-western-journal","tag-audit","tag-child-sex-abuse","tag-fbi","tag-mismanagement","tag-public-safety
["GET
