Kamala doesn&rsquo;t need the energy delivery as much right now,&rdquo; Paul Mitchell, a Democratic consultant and California-based political data expert, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2024\/08\/28\/newsom-harris-surrogate-california-00176556\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>told<\/a> <em>Politico<\/em> this week.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In a flurry of interviews and battleground events for Biden before the president dropped his reelection bid in July, Newsom proved himself to be one of his chief champions. Whether in Michigan or Pennsylvania, on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=VOFbGjH3JPU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Fox News<\/a> or CNN, the California Democrat expressed enthusiasm for keeping Biden in the White House. &ldquo;I will never turn my back on President Biden,&rdquo; he said just a few short weeks before the president&rsquo;s historic campaign exit.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Newsom&rsquo;s devotion to the president even attracted criticism that his role as top Biden surrogate was hindering him from governing California. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Biden arrives to speak at a get-out-the-vote rally for Gov. You can&rsquo;t afford to live here, and so those are all things that obviously we need to work on here, and he&rsquo;s not here to work on those,&rdquo; Californian state Sen. Brian Dahle, who ran against Newsom during the special recall election in 2022, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/newsom-under-fire-ignoring-states-problems-while-campaigning-biden-harris-ticket\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>told<\/a> Fox Digital last month.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>After Harris&rsquo;s swift ascent to the top of the Democratic ticket, Newsom might have more time to spend in his home state. The California governor appears to have taken a backseat in promoting his former colleague, despite claims that he&rsquo;s &ldquo;totally focused the next 70 odd days on electing VP Harris,&rdquo; in comments to <em>Politico<\/em>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A host of top Democrats delivered prime-time speeches in support of Harris during last week&rsquo;s Democratic National Convention. Newsom was not one of them, making only brief remarks from the floor on the second evening of the event.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Newsom&rsquo;s office said the governor had been approached with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fox-news-crashes-viewers-cut-in-half-in-3-weeks-cnn-beats-fox-in-daytime-viewers-msnbc-beats-fox-in-every-prime-time-slot-but-tucker\/\" title=\"FOX NEWS CRASHES! In the following years, Newsom rose to prominence as the Golden State&rsquo;s lieutenant governor and then governor, while Harris became California&rsquo;s Democratic attorney general.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>While Newsom was widely rumored to hold presidential ambitions, he never said he would challenge Harris.
