This behavior led in part to Trump receiving a gag order during his trial, which precluded him from making public comments about the family of prosecutors and court staff, as well as jurors.

The former president released a statement referencing the alleged conflict involving the judge’s daughter Wednesday, calling the case the “lawless Manhattan D.A. The committee is investigating potential conflicts of interest related to Judge Merchan due to his daughter Loren Merchan’s position as president of Authentic Campaigns, which has worked with prominent Democrats including President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.

In a letter addressed to Michael Nellis, CEO of Authentic Campaigns, Jordan stated that the committee is looking into whether the firm’s services benefit Trump’s political opponents. He noted that this inquiry could influence future legislation aimed at addressing politically motivated local prosecutions by allowing current or former presidents to transfer cases to federal court for impartiality.

The subpoena was issued after multiple requests for information from Authentic Campaigns went unanswered. The committee is particularly concerned about whether Judge Merchan can remain impartial given his daughter’s involvement with a firm that has received over $7 million for its work on Harris’s 2019 presidential campaign and contributed efforts during the Biden-Harris 2020 campaign.

The letter demands that Authentic Campaigns provide relevant documents by September 13. If they claim no such records exist, they must submit a sworn statement confirming their thorough search for responsive materials.

Trump was convicted in May on 34 felony counts related to falsifying business records concerning hush money payments made during his campaign. He is currently seeking delays in sentencing while contesting aspects of the case based on an upcoming election and recent Supreme Court rulings regarding immunity.

Judge Merchan recently denied Trump’s request for recusal from the case, stating that allegations made by Trump’s legal team do not constitute valid grounds for conflict. Earlier this year, Trump had raised concerns about Loren Merchan’s connections with Democratic figures before being placed under a gag order prohibiting him from discussing prosecutors’ families or jurors publicly during his trial.

In response to ongoing scrutiny regarding these matters, Trump criticized what he termed “the lawless Manhattan D.A. Hoax” and called for an end to his gag order so he could speak freely about what he perceives as corruption within the justice system orchestrated by Democrats. Meanwhile, Judge Merchan is expected soon to decide if recent immunity rulings affected the trial or if sentencing will proceed as scheduled on September 18 at 10 AM

[39561,23098,7001,39560,32076
post-2332666","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","tag-conflict-allegations","tag-jim-jordan","tag-subpoenas","tag-trump-judge","tag-washington-examiner
["GET
