Lawmakers and grassroots activists <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democrats-call-on-biden-to-relinquish-sole-authority-over-nuclear-strikes\/\" title=\"Democrats Call On Biden To Relinquish Sole Authority Over Nuclear Strikes\">previously expressed concern<\/a> the policy could jeopardize on-time arrival of mail-in ballots.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/usps-reno-sacramento-mail-ballots-70a44b8749bc84626c7e4a9d901d7bf6#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Associated Press<\/a>, &ldquo;USPS said in a statement it has identified &lsquo;enhanced efficiencies&rsquo; that will allow processing of single-piece mail to continue at the existing Reno postal facility.&rdquo; The policy &mdash; which was originally set to take effect next year &mdash; would have &ldquo;meant that all mail sent from the Reno area would pass through Sacramento before reaching its final destination &mdash; even from one side of the city to the other.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-0355137d4ddf096a9e6c2f82c289f5c5 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-0355137d4ddf096a9e6c2f82c289f5c5\"><\/div>\n<p>As Ned Jones previously <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/07\/31\/how-new-postal-practices-could-threaten-the-integrity-of-americas-biggest-voting-precinct\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wrote<\/a> in these pages, the USPS has been undergoing a restructuring since 2021 that seeks to &ldquo;achieve financial sustainability and service excellence.&rdquo; One of the biggest changes accompanying this overhaul is the consolidation of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/lawmakers-propose-bipartisan-bill-to-tackle-border-crisis\/\" title=\"Lawmakers propose bipartisan bill to tackle border crisis\">regional processing centers<\/a>, &ldquo;which means that in some cases, [mail-in ballots] from one state are sent to a center in a different, neighboring state to be processed.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>While reportedly effective at <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/07\/31\/how-new-postal-practices-could-threaten-the-integrity-of-americas-biggest-voting-precinct\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reducing costs<\/a>, this policy has produced its negatives for states like <a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Voting_in_Nevada\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Nevada<\/a> and Utah, which predominantly conduct their elections by mail. <\/p>\n<p>During the latter&rsquo;s June primaries, for instance, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/07\/23\/utah-certifies-primary-despite-claims-its-all-mail-voting-system-disenfranchised-hundreds\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">nearly 1,200 voters<\/a> in Southern Utah had their mail-in ballots discarded due to a postmark issue reportedly stemming from the USPS&rsquo;s processing system. Local officials <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/07\/11\/utah-voters-say-their-votes-were-tossed-after-usps-routed-ballots-to-vegas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">theorized<\/a> that the ballots of these voters &mdash; who claimed to have mailed them in by the state-mandated deadline &mdash; were rerouted to the agency&rsquo;s processing center in Las Vegas and subsequently received a new postmark. <\/p>\n<p>A legal challenge attempting to have these ballots counted was <a href=\"https:\/\/kutv.com\/news\/politics\/utah-supreme-court-dismisses-case-filed-by-congressional-candidate-colby-jenkins-celeste-maloy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">dismissed<\/a> by the Utah Supreme Court earlier this month. <\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-facdae04e317a4d44f030e3d159600f2 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-facdae04e317a4d44f030e3d159600f2\"><\/div>\n<p>Gov. Joe Lombardo, R-Nev., responded positively to the USPS&rsquo;s Tuesday announcement, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/JosephMLombardo\/status\/1828482449510408334\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">calling<\/a> it &ldquo;great news for our state&rdquo; and praising bipartisan efforts to &ldquo;keep USPS operations in state and successfully protect[] Nevadans from misguided D.C. bureaucracy.&rdquo; Nevada Secretary of State Cisco Aguilar and Sens.
