A Democratic National Committee staff member had challenged West’s candidacy, as well as that of Green Party candidate Jill Stein, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. This move raises questions about the DNC’s commitment to “protecting democracy.” The effort to remove West and Stein from the Wisconsin ballot appears to be a strategic political maneuver, given that independent and third-party candidates could significantly influence election outcomes in a state where recent presidential races have been decided by narrow margins—between 5,700 and 23,000 votes, as noted by the Associated Press.

In 2016, Stein received over 31,000 votes in Wisconsin—more than Trump’s winning margin of just under 23,000 votes—which led some Democrats to blame her for Trump’s victory that year. Current polling shows Democratic nominee Kamala Harris with a slight edge over Republican Donald Trump in Wisconsin. A Marquette Law School poll conducted from July 24 to August 1 found Harris leading Trump by one percentage point (46% to 45%), with Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Jill Stein at 1%, and Cornel West at less than half a percent.

West has focused his campaign on Israel’s conflict with Hamas in Gaza. In a video posted on X recently, he expressed his refusal to collaborate with Harris or her potential administration: “No way,” he stated. He criticized leaders who have been associated with genocide throughout their careers for making promises they do not keep.

In related news, the Michigan Court of Claims rejected an attempt by the Michigan Democratic Party to disqualify West from appearing on their ballot. While these developments might seem favorable for Trump’s campaign overall, it was also confirmed that Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s name will stay on Wisconsin’s ballot despite him suspending his campaign and endorsing Trump due to his supporters’ preference for Trump over Harris.

Kennedy has successfully withdrawn from ballots in Arizona, Ohio, and Pennsylvania so far; however, he is likely still listed in Nevada and Michigan because deadlines have passed for those states while Georgia may see him removed following a recent court ruling.

This situation presents potential challenges for Trump unless RFK Jr.’s supporters align themselves with him; meanwhile it poses significant concerns for Democrats regarding West’s continued presence on the ballot in Wisconsin

[33651
39481,38149,39480,39482,39479
post-2332103","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-the-western-journal","tag-ballot-dispute","tag-cornel-west","tag-democratic-national-committee","tag-election-rules","tag-wisconsin-elections
["GET
