Following the August primaries, the GOP has added 21 new⁣ candidates, bringing their total ⁣to nearly ‍100 hopefuls on the ballot. VTGOP Chairman Paul Dame highlighted that all counties now have Republican‌ candidates, ‍ensuring ‌no Democratic candidates go uncontested. This influx of candidates is attributed in part to rising concerns over property taxes, which Dame suggests‌ may have motivated more voters to engage politically. After the state primaries on August 13, Vermont Republicans have introduced 21 new candidates for the House, bringing their total to nearly 100 hopefuls on the ballot, according to party officials. VTGOP Chairman Paul Dame noted that seven out of Vermont’s 14 counties will have a Republican candidate for House seats, ensuring that no Democrat goes unchallenged in those areas. “Typically, we add four or five serious candidates through the primary,” Dame remarked. “However, to see more than four times our usual number is a testament to the dedication of our volunteers and local leaders since May.” He suggested that recent property tax bills may have motivated some Vermonters to become more politically active and seek change. “By competing in more districts, we enhance our chances of upholding the governor’s vetoes in either chamber,” he explained. “If we win just over half of our House races, we can provide Gov. Gov. Phil Scott—a Republican who remains highly popular—is campaigning for his fifth term and has emphasized his desire for greater balance within the Legislature as one reason for his reelection bid. He stated that Vermonters need to elect moderate legislators willing to collaborate across party lines: “After considering all that remains to be done, I realize I cannot step back while Vermont’s Legislature is so imbalanced.” In June, Vermont’s Republican Party gained national attention when it voted narrowly to allow support for convicted felons after former President Donald Trump was found guilty on multiple felony counts related to business record falsification involving hush money payments made during his presidency. Although Nikki Haley won Vermont’s GOP presidential primary this year, Trump still garnered eight delegates and received over 33,000 votes there during this election cycle. Following this vote regarding Trump’s candidacy status, Dame reiterated that their focus would remain on supporting local races: “Our priority has always been about electing candidates and directing resources into both House and Senate campaigns here in Vermont.”

[6571,6203,14967
post-2330417","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","tag-elections","tag-gop","tag-vermont
["GET
