A spokesperson for the CDC denied the claim&rsquo;s validity in an email to Check Your Fact.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Thailand has confirmed a &ldquo;new, potentially deadlier strain of Mpox,&rdquo; making it the first in Asia, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/czrgpg127zgo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BBC News<\/a>. A 66-year-old man who traveled from Africa to Bangkok was infected on August 14, the outlet reported.<\/p>\n<p>The Threads post claims that Mpox is airborne. &ldquo;Mpox and it&rsquo;s airborne now,&rdquo; the post reads, before adding, &ldquo;Wear A Mask y&rsquo;all.&rdquo; The post also includes an image appearing to show the progression of Mpox from macules to papules to vesicles to pustules to scabs.<\/p>\n<p>The claim is false. On August 20, <a href=\"https:\/\/leadstories.com\/hoax-alert\/2024\/08\/fact-check-monkeypox-virus-not-known-to-spread-through-airborne-transmission.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lead Stories<\/a> reported the claim was false, noting that multiple experts agree the virus is &ldquo;not known to spread through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/bidens-covid-19-response-continues-to-be-called-into-question\/\" title=\"Biden\u2019s COVID-19 response continues to be called into question\">airborne transmission<\/a>&rdquo; currently.<\/p>\n<p>Although Africa&rsquo;s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the WHO both recently declared Mpox a &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/martinez-we-have-2-4-hour-lines-due-to-new-mexico-lockdown\/\" title=\"Martinez: &#039;We Have 2-4 Hour Lines&#039; Due to New Mexico Lockdown\">public health emergency<\/a>,&rdquo; the risk to the general public in the U.S. is &ldquo;very low,&rdquo; according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hhs.gov\/about\/news\/2024\/08\/14\/united-states-governments-response-clade-i-mpox-outbreak-democratic-republic-congo-other-countries-region.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for the CDC denied the claim&rsquo;s validity in an email to Check Your Fact.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;There is currently no evidence of airborne transmission for either mpox clade. Both clades can spread through direct contact with infected wild animals, through close contact (including intimate or sexual contact) with a person with mpox, and through contact with contaminated materials,&rdquo; the spokesperson said. In fact, Lead Stories reported on August 20 that experts agree there is currently no evidence suggesting such a mode of spread for the virus. Although both Africa\u2019s CDC and WHO have labeled Mpox a &#8220;public health emergency,&#8221; they note that the risk level for the general public in the U.S. remains &#8220;very low,&#8221; according to statements from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
