Excess weight can cause and be a result of inflated estrogen levels.

Masculinity, like beauty, offers a set of aspirational standards that encourage men to be the best versions of themselves. Leftists would rather erase these standards in the kind of narcissistic behavior characteristic of feminist identity politics. No, not all men will be as strong as Hogan, a professional entertainer for whom body-building helped his career. That doesn’t mean men ought to embrace apathy towards personal health to make themselves feel better.

Men should be strong. Strength makes men capable of delivering on their responsibility to support their family, friends, and neighbors, whether that means helping someone move or protecting passengers on the subway. Of course strong men support women. In fact, support for women is, and always has been fundamental to healthy models of male masculinity.

So when Dana Bash says Democrats are presenting a reimagined model of a man as one who supports a woman, she’s really just an ideologue pretending Republicans are allergic to addressing women’s needs. Nikki Haley, who felt compelled to constantly remind Americans of her uterus, would probably beg to differ.

Tristan Justice is the western correspondent for The Federalist and the author of Social Justice Redux, a conservative newsletter on culture, health, and wellness. During her remarks at the Democratic National Convention (DNC), Bash noted that Doug Emhoff and Vice-Presidential nominee Tim Walz symbolize the party’s attempt to present male figures who can connect with men who may not fit the stereotype of hyper-masculinity or be interested in figures like Hulk Hogan. She added that this representation aims to convey that in 2024, it is acceptable for men to be secure in their identity while supporting women.

Bash’s assertion implies that conservative men are uncomfortable with Kamala Harris simply because she is a woman, rather than due to her far-left California politics and her tendency to leverage identity politics for conformity—traits often associated with negative feminine behavior. The vice-presidential pick’s use of the term “weird” also reflects what some see as toxic femininity, especially considering his past decision not to deploy to Iraq before campaigning on his military background.

Labeling others as “weird” is seen as a behavior more typical among women; traditionally, men engage in direct conflict while women tend to enforce social norms. It can be jarring when male politicians adopt such language.

The presence of Hulk Hogan at July’s Republican National Convention was met with criticism from those on the left who seek to redefine masculinity negatively. David French wrote an article for The New York Times expressing discontent over Hogan’s performance, viewing it as an exhibition of “anger” and “grievance,” suggesting that channeling these feelings into displays of strength is inherently toxic masculinity.

French invited readers questioning whether Republicans view themselves as representing men to revisit highlights from their convention, asserting that traditional manliness was central there.

Hogan demonstrated more traditional masculine energy during his ten-minute patriotic speech than was evident throughout the DNC, which he described unfavorably regarding its overall appearance.

Masculinity sets aspirational standards encouraging men toward self-improvement; however, leftists often aim to dismantle these ideals through narcissistic feminist identity politics. While not every man will possess physical strength akin to Hogan—whose bodybuilding career contributed significantly—this does not justify neglecting personal health or well-being.

Men should strive for strength since it enables them to fulfill responsibilities towards family and community—whether assisting someone in need or ensuring safety in public spaces—and strong men naturally support women. In fact, this support has always been integral within healthy models of masculinity.

Thus when Dana Bash claims Democrats are redefining masculinity by promoting a model where a man supports a woman, she appears more ideologically motivated than accurate about Republicans’ engagement with women’s issues—a point Nikki Haley might contest given her own emphasis on female representation.

Tristan Justice serves as The Federalist’s western correspondent and authors Social Justice Redux—a conservative newsletter focused on culture and wellness topics—and has contributed pieces for various outlets including The Washington Examiner and Fox News after graduating from George Washington University with degrees in political science and journalism

[546
32929,3685,39063
post-2329856","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-the-federalist","tag-dana-bash","tag-democrats","tag-low-t-party
["GET
