Now this pirate is working feverishly to protect his ill-gotten booty — and telling the truth certainly isn’t part of his game plan.

His Democracy Docket blog and podcast regularly skewer groups and organizations who are working to protect the security and integrity of our elections — including my group, Pigpen Project. And he’s at it again.

On Aug. 20, one of his bloggers, Matt Cohen, scribbled a post headlined: “These Right-Wing Groups Are Trying to Remove Millions of Voters Around the Country.” He starts off with:

In June, a nascent right-wing group in Nevada sent more than a thousand names to 10 county clerks and registrars in an attempt to get them purged from the state’s voter registration.

Yes, it’s true that we submitted more than 1,000 names of suspicious voters, but this wasn’t an attempt to get legitimate voters “purged” — a scare tactic word used to undermine our efforts — from the voter rolls.

The names were of voters who appear to have moved out of Nevada and re-registered in another state who, if true, simply should no longer be on Nevada’s voter rolls. All that our submissions did was trigger a verification postcard mailing from election officials to ensure the accuracy of our information, exactly as the law requires.

In fact, after Nevada’s June primary, election officials in all 17 of Nevada’s counties mailed approximately 150,000 such postcards to suspicious voters and, as a result, more than 100,000 of them had their status changed from “active” to “inactive” earlier this month. That means election officials confirmed that they didn’t belong on Nevada’s voter rolls and won’t be automatically receiving a mail-in ballot for the November election.

Cohen goes on:

According to the New York Times, the group [Pigpen Project] is working with EIN, True the Vote and Vote Ref — another unreliable database of semi-public voter information — to identify voters. By Muth’s own admission, the group is also engaging in ‘boots on the ground’ to canvass door-to-door in the Silver State to confirm voter registrations.

We debunked the NYT hit piece way back in March. While it’s true we are a member of the Election Integrity Network (EIN) of groups working on this issue nationally, we have absolutely nothing to do with True the Vote or Vote Ref and only use official data from election departments and the U.S. Postal Service. One of the sources we use is Nevada’s statewide voter registration list, which the secretary of state’s office has authorized us to access.

Yes, we’ve had volunteers going door-to-door to verify our information before submitting suspicious voters to election officials. Current residents have been signing official “Non-Resident Reports” confirming that a suspicious voter no longer lives where the suspicious voter is registered. We submit those signed reports to the county clerk or registrar to trigger the official verification postcard mailings.

That’s called “responsible.” We don’t just make wild allegations. Our volunteers have proven that our information and data are accurate and reliable.

In a separate blog post about Nevada’s new VREMS (Voter Registration and Election Management Solutions) system on Aug. 20, Cohen claims:

Right-wing ‘election integrity’ groups like the Pigpen Project have recently tried to bring voter roll challenges to a number of counties in Nevada, using incomplete data from VoteRef, an online database of semi-public voter information that’s proven unreliable.

Again, that’s simply a flat-out lie. He is a Democratic attorney recognized for his role in the Russia investigation and for leveraging COVID-19 to alter election laws nationwide. In Nevada, he played a key role in establishing automatic mail-in voting and vote harvesting practices. Currently, he is actively trying to safeguard these controversial changes, with honesty not being part of his strategy.

Elias runs the Democracy Docket blog and podcast, where he frequently criticizes organizations dedicated to maintaining election security and integrity, including my own group, Pigpen Project. Recently, on August 20th, one of his contributors, Matt Cohen, published an article titled “These Right-Wing Groups Are Trying to Remove Millions of Voters Around the Country.” The piece begins by stating that a newly formed right-wing group in Nevada submitted over a thousand names to county clerks in an effort to have them removed from voter registration lists.

While it’s accurate that we provided more than 1,000 names of questionable voters for review, this was not an attempt to unjustly remove legitimate voters—an exaggerated term used to discredit our actions—but rather aimed at identifying individuals who may have moved out of Nevada and re-registered elsewhere. If true, these individuals should no longer be listed as active voters in Nevada. Our submissions simply prompted election officials to send verification postcards as required by law.

Following Nevada’s June primary elections, officials across all 17 counties mailed around 150,000 postcards to verify suspicious voter registrations; subsequently over 100,000 statuses were changed from “active” to “inactive,” confirming they were no longer eligible voters who would receive mail-in ballots for the upcoming November elections.

Cohen further claims that according to the New York Times (NYT), Pigpen Project collaborates with EIN (Election Integrity Network), True the Vote and Vote Ref—another questionable database—to identify voters. However we clarified back in March that while we are indeed part of EIN’s network addressing this issue nationally; we do not work with True the Vote or Vote Ref but rely solely on official data from electoral authorities and USPS records—including access granted by Nevada’s Secretary of State office.

Yes—we have volunteers canvassing neighborhoods door-to-door verifying our findings before reporting suspicious registrations; current residents fill out official “Non-Resident Reports” affirming that certain registered individuals no longer reside at their listed addresses. We then submit these reports so county clerks can initiate verification postcard mailings—a responsible approach rather than making baseless accusations. Our volunteers have demonstrated that our data is both accurate and trustworthy.

In another blog post about Nevada’s new VREMS (Voter Registration and Election Management Solutions) system dated August 20th Cohen asserts: “Right-wing ‘election integrity’ groups like Pigpen Project have recently attempted voter roll challenges using incomplete data from VoteRef.” This statement is entirely false; we do not utilize VoteRef at all but strictly adhere only to government records when challenging those believed no longer eligible under state law—and conduct our efforts within legal frameworks established for ensuring only qualified voters participate in elections.

One must question why anyone would misrepresent facts justifying keeping individuals on voter rolls who are no longer residents of Nevada—what could their motivation possibly be? The answer seems clear enough.
This article has been republished from Pigpen Project with permission.
Chuck Muth serves as president of Citizen Outreach Foundation which launched Pigpen Project in January 2023 as part its non-profit initiatives under section 501(c)(3)

https://thefederalist.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/nejc-soklic-n0zXSVXH5c-unsplash-e1724360343284.jpg
[546
32644,39052,5592,19656,6056
post-2329816","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-the-federalist","tag-election-integrity","tag-elias-group","tag-nevada","tag-voter-roll","tag-watchdog
https://thefederalist.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/nejc-soklic-n0zXSVXH5c-unsplash-e1724360343284.jpg
["GET
