The law, enacted by Democrats⁣ in 2022, mandates that the Attorney General can add disclosure statements for initiatives affecting tax revenue. These labels aim to‍ inform voters of potential impacts, such ⁤as a ⁢reduction in‍ funding for ⁣education and other programs related ⁣to measures that modify taxes or fees. The decisive moment occurred late Thursday when Tim Eyman learned that there would be no hearing on Friday morning regarding his effort to prevent what supporters of the initiatives refer to as “warning labels” from appearing on the ballot measures. Eyman stated in an interview with The Center Square on Friday morning, “Democrats enacted this law in 2022, which allows the attorney general to add a sentence to the neutral ballot title of any initiative that could affect state tax revenue.” According to the law, disclosure statements of 15 words or fewer must be included on ballots if a measure repeals, imposes, or alters a tax or fee and results in a net change in state revenue. Eyman argued that these statements should only apply to initiatives affecting taxes and not all initiatives. He explained that the mandated sentence indicates how this measure would reduce funding for specific programs identified by the AG related to that tax. For instance, ballots concerning the capital gains repeal initiative will include language from the AG stating it will decrease funding for K-12 education, childcare, and school construction. Eyman believes these additions are intended to influence voters against supporting these measures. “We anticipated back in March when three initiatives were set for the ballot that such sabotage sentences would be included,” he remarked. Initiative sponsor Rep. Jim Walsh (R-Aberdeen) filed a lawsuit in Thurston County Superior Court in June; however, while his arguments were dismissed by a judge, Walsh’s team requested direct intervention from Washington’s Supreme Court due to concerns raised by the secretary of state’s office about needing clarity by August 23 regarding whether those statements would appear on ballots. Last week, however, the court ruled against their lawsuit due to improper challenge procedures while Eyman’s challenge persisted based on his belief that state constitution reserves initiative power solely for citizens: “It states that while laws can facilitate this process they cannot obstruct it; having AG undermine tax-related initiatives does not facilitate anything,” he asserted. Eyman sought an injunction preventing Secretary of State from printing ballots with AG’s statements but expressed disappointment upon learning at 4 PM Thursday about insufficient time allocated for defending this law during court proceedings; thus leading judges agreeing upon delaying hearings without rescheduling them—coincidentally coinciding with ballot printing timelines which frustrated him further: “It’s incredibly frustrating.” Notably Initiative 2066 aimed at safeguarding energy choices and maintaining natural gas won’t have an accompanying tax impact statement from AG’s office unlike three other proposals including one seeking repeal of capital gains taxes alongside another terminating cap-and-trade program plus one making participation optional within state-run long-term care scheme

[13239,34627,38540
post-2326680","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","tag-initiatives","tag-november-ballot","tag-warning-labels
["GET
