It suggests that Harris’s plan, if enacted, would ‌lead‍ to significant government control over healthcare decisions and eliminate all public and private ⁣insurance ⁤except ⁤for specific programs‍ like Indian Health Service and Tricare. The estimated cost of implementing⁢ this ⁢system ranges from ‌$32.6 trillion‍ to $40 trillion over ⁤a decade, which is comparable to nearly half the global economic productivity.

Critics ⁢argue that this comprehensive plan would lead ⁣to a significant increase in taxes for Americans, potentially doubling the current tax burden, similar to tax rates in socialist countries like Sweden. They‍ contend that Medicare for All would reduce the availability of medical ⁢services and increase wait times due to a shift in funding from patient care to bureaucratic administration. This would put the federal government in complete control of all aspects of health care: financing, staffing and credentialling, and all medical decisions.

Presumably, if Harris attained the presidency, she would “do whatever it takes,” just as Barack Obama did with the (un)-Affordable Care Act (ACA), to pass her version of Medicare for All. Preserving just one payer for health care is the best choice. That should be the patient, not the federal government.

Although the specifics of Medicare for All are variable and complex, the major elements are straightforward. D.C. promises to deliver cradle-to-grave medical care at a cost of $32.6 to $40 trillion over a 10-year period. The higher figure is according to Sanders.

For perspective, consider the following amounts. The ACA cost $1.76 trillion. The U.S. expended $4.8 trillion on medical care in 2023 when the U.S. gross domestic product was $27.3 trillion. In 2023, the combined GDP of all nations was $105 trillion. Harris would spend nearly half the productivity of planet Earth on her single-payer health care.

Medicare for All would abolish all public and private insurance plans, except Indian Health Service and Tricare, replacing them with a single federal plan. A national health budget would dictate payments for both services and goods. Patients would pay nothing directly but a massive amount indirectly, as Medicare for All would be funded by taxes. Given the cost of Medicare for All, the tax burden could easily double for Americans. In Sweden, a cradle-to-grave socialist economy, the top tax rate is 52.2 percent.

The 2023 Medicare for All plan would cover most Americans. Harris intends to add approximately 11 million illegal entrants, at least initially. The Medicare for All bureaucracy would determine what care individuals get, when, by whom, where, and even if. Medical autonomy, the freedom to choose one’s care, would be nullified, just as in the United Kingdom’s single-payer system.

The seesaw effect describes a decrease in the availability of medical services when the number of government-insured patients increases. This is due to the diversion of funds from paying for patient care to paying for insurance and bureaucracy. If all 333 million Americans were covered by Medicare for All, the maximum wait time for care is likely to increase dramatically from the present 122 days, to years!

With Medicare for All, Washington would credential and license care providers — and punish those deemed miscreant, or worse, spreaders of “disinformation.” Anyone who was involved in the censorship, canceling, and devastating mandates imposed during the Covid scam shudders at such anti-patient, anti-scientific federal tyranny.

From this physician’s perspective, it is also likely that Medicare for All would induce thousands of senior physicians to quit, making the current British “MD exodus” problem look trivial. Without proper economic incentives, costs and spending rise without limit while service suffers, quality declines, and innovation ceases. Recall the wait lines in the U.S.S.R.’s centrally controlled economy.

At present, federal BARRCOME — bureaucracy, administration, rules, regulations, compliance, oversight, mandates, and enforcement — consumes 31 percent to more than 50 percent of all U.S. medical spending. Let them shop for their care and watch how it becomes affordable when sellers (providers) compete for patients’ dollars.

Give employees the money employers currently pay to insurance companies. Repeal regulations that dictate what policies insurance companies can sell. Revive catastrophic coverage for events that cost more than most individuals can afford, like cancer and bad car accidents.

Let the free market function. For the small number of medically vulnerable Americans, states can create more efficient and effective safety nets than Washington’s one-size-fits-all Medicaid.

If the single-payer were the patient instead of Washington, Americans would gain timely, compassionate, affordable health care. Spending on health care would decrease, possibly by half! Spending would become dollar efficient instead of wasting precious dollars on unnecessary BARRCOME. Individual freedom — medical autonomy — would be restored. This plan would place the federal government in total control over every facet of healthcare, including funding, staffing, credentialing, and medical decision-making. If Harris were to become president, it is likely she would go to great lengths—much like Barack Obama did with the Affordable Care Act (ACA)—to implement her version of Medicare for All. The ideal scenario is having a single payer for healthcare be the patient rather than the federal government.

While details regarding Medicare for All can vary and are intricate, its core components are clear. The proposal suggests that Washington will provide comprehensive medical care from birth to death at an estimated cost ranging from $32.6 trillion to $40 trillion over ten years; Sanders cites the higher figure.

To put this into perspective: The ACA’s cost was $1.76 trillion; in 2023 alone, U.S. spending on healthcare reached $4.8 trillion against a GDP of $27.3 trillion; globally, all nations combined had a GDP of $105 trillion that year. Under Harris’s plan, nearly half of global productivity would be allocated towards her single-payer system.

Medicare for All would eliminate all public and private insurance plans—except those covering Indian Health Service and Tricare—and replace them with one federal program governed by a national health budget dictating payments for services and goods provided. While patients wouldn’t pay directly at point-of-care under this system, they would face significant indirect costs funded through taxes that could potentially double their tax burden compared to current levels; Sweden’s top tax rate stands at 52.2% in its cradle-to-grave socialist economy.

The proposed 2023 Medicare for All plan aims to cover most Americans while also including around 11 million undocumented immigrants initially as part of its coverage expansion efforts. However, it would centralize decision-making about individual care—including what treatments are available and who provides them—effectively stripping away personal medical autonomy akin to systems seen in countries like the United Kingdom.

The “seesaw effect” describes how an increase in government-insured patients often leads to reduced availability of medical services due to funds being redirected from patient care towards administrative costs associated with insurance bureaucracy—a situation likely exacerbated if all 333 million Americans were enrolled under such a system where wait times could extend dramatically beyond current averages.

Under Medicare for All’s framework established by Washington D.C., credentialing and licensing providers could lead not only to punitive measures against those deemed non-compliant but also create an environment reminiscent of censorship experienced during COVID-19 mandates—a troubling prospect from both patient rights and scientific integrity perspectives.

From my viewpoint as a physician, it’s plausible that such policies might drive many senior doctors out of practice entirely—making existing issues like Britain’s “MD exodus” seem minor—which could further lengthen wait times significantly while hindering future physician training opportunities.

Harris’s vision essentially represents a centrally controlled economic model devoid of free-market dynamics where lackluster incentives result in unchecked spending growth alongside declining service quality and innovation stagnation—a scenario echoed by historical examples such as long wait lines within Soviet-era economies.

Currently within U.S healthcare spending structures known as BARRCOME (bureaucracy administration rules regulations compliance oversight mandates enforcement), between 31% up to more than half goes toward administrative expenses rather than direct patient care—as evidenced when Obama redirected billions from Medicare trust funds into ACA financing initiatives.

With implementation under Medicare-for-All expectedly amplifying BARRCOME expenditures even further there’d be less financial resource available ultimately leading toward fewer nurses or doctors providing actual patient care resulting instead into prolonged waiting periods or potential systemic collapse altogether.

While having one payer may seem beneficial conceptually—the key lies ensuring that payer remains focused on patients rather than bureaucratic entities controlling access or resources.

Empowering individuals financially through employer-provided funds currently allocated towards insurance premiums allows consumers greater choice while fostering competition among providers which can drive down overall costs effectively improving affordability across board.

Additionally removing restrictions surrounding health savings accounts enables families more flexibility managing their own health expenditures while reinstating catastrophic coverage options ensures safety nets exist without imposing blanket solutions unsuitable across diverse populations needing tailored approaches instead.

Allowing free market principles reignite competition amongst providers will yield timely compassionate affordable healthcare solutions reducing overall expenditure potentially by half! Restoring individual freedoms concerning personal medical choices benefits everyone except perhaps politicians entrenched within bureaucratic systems reliant upon maintaining status quo power dynamics intact!

Deane Waldman M.D., MBA is professor emeritus specializing pediatrics pathology decision science University New Mexico former director Center Healthcare Policy Texas Public Policy Foundation former director New Mexico Health Insurance Exchange author award-winning book “Curing Cancer U.S Healthcare: StatesCare Market-Based Medicine.”

[546
37167,32438,32171,12428,38512
post-2326545","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-the-federalist","tag-healthcare-policy","tag-kamala-harris","tag-political-commentary","tag-socialism","tag-soviet-style-medical-system
["GET
