If that total does not match the one recorded on the voting machines, the poll manager must either determine a reason for the inconsistency or correct it.<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/sos.ga.gov\/news\/raffensperger-defends-georgias-election-integrity-act-last-minute-changes-delaying-election\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"news release\">news release<\/a>, Raffensperger called the proposal &ldquo;misguided,&rdquo; citing legislation passed by the Georgia General Assembly.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The General Assembly knew that quick reporting of results and certification is paramount to voter confidence and passed S.B. 202, but misguided attempts by the State Election Board will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/judge-blocks-arizona-county-from-hand-counting-ballots\/\" title=\"Judge Blocks Arizona County From Hand-Counting Ballots\">delay election results<\/a> and undermine chain of custody safeguards,&rdquo; he said.<\/p>\n<p>The proposal has been <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/georgia-state-election-board-voting-558bdf5cd8f7572b44322f0b55f781bb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>open<\/a> for comment, and the board will vote on Aug. 19 whether to adopt it.<\/p>\n<p>However, Alexander <a href=\"https:\/\/sos.ga.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/forms\/Petition%20-%20Alexander_Redacted.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>said<\/a> hand-counting ballots was a &ldquo;long-standing tradition&rdquo; in Fayette County and other places that was stopped in 2022 by Blake Evans, director of elections for the secretary of state.<\/p>\n<p>Raffensperger&rsquo;s criticism comes after the board <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/state\/3113443\/georgia-election-board-approves-rule-requiring-reasonable-inquiry-before-certifying-results\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>passed<\/a> a rule on Aug. 6 that would allow a &ldquo;reasonable inquiry that the tabulation and canvassing of the election are complete and accurate and that the results are a true and accurate accounting of all votes cast in that election&rdquo; before certifying the results. That ruling received criticism from some who feared it could lead to delays in the certification process.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The news release from Raffensperger&rsquo;s office also slammed the board members, who he said are &ldquo;unelected bureaucrats who have never run an election and seem to reject the advice of anyone who ever has.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The board has five members, one chosen by the state House, one by the state Senate, one each from the Republican and Democratic parties, and a chairperson chosen by the General Assembly or the governor if the General Assembly is not in session.
