The contrasting definitions of crime focus on \u2062the distinction\u200b between violent acts versus\u200c property and other crimes, raising questions about overall public safety.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Axios headline, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2024\/08\/12\/violent-crime-harris-trump-election?utm_source=newsletter&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=newsletter_axiosam&amp;stream=top\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">April 12<\/a>: &ldquo;New data shows violent crime dropping sharply in major U.S. cities.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>That assertion, the article merrily stated, &ldquo;puts a serious dent in one of the most frequently used lines of attack by former President Trump and his allies, who have sought to tie Democrats to the issue since 2020.&rdquo; And it comes surely by coincidence as freshly anointed Democrat presidential nominee Kamala Harris <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/08\/09\/california-can-thank-kamala-harris-for-its-crime-problem\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">gives herself a makeover<\/a> as a hard ass on crime rather than the effusive &ldquo;defund the police&rdquo; candidate she ran as in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>To be fair, the claim that the intense Democrat-inspired and -excused crime wave of the past four years has been on a steady downward slope isn&rsquo;t exclusively about shoring up Harris. Such stories periodically popped up before.<\/p>\n<p>CNN, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/06\/10\/us\/us-violent-crime-rates-statistics\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">June 10<\/a>: &ldquo;Violent crime is down and the US murder rate is plunging, FBI statistics show.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>NBC News, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/new-fbi-stats-show-historic-declines-violent-crime-rate-murder-showing-rcna156573\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">June 11<\/a>: &ldquo;New FBI stats show &lsquo;historic&rsquo; declines in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/white-house-releases-list-of-president-trumps-accomplishments-and-it-is-historic\/\" title=\"White House Releases List of President Trump\u2019s Accomplishments \u2013  And It Is Historic!\">violent crime rate<\/a>, with murder showing sharpest drop.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>That&rsquo;s quickly becoming a talking point among Democrats hoping voters forget about the truth as they shove Harris in as president. White House press secretary and voodoo doll Karine Jeanne-Pierre <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/press-briefings\/2024\/08\/13\/press-gaggle-by-press-secretary-karine-jean-pierre-and-advanced-research-projects-agency-for-health-director-dr-renee-wegrzyn-en-route-new-orleans-la\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">repeated<\/a> the &ldquo;violent crime has plunged&rdquo; claim <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/TrumpWarRoom\/status\/1823789857195581585\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">twice<\/a> this week.<\/p>\n<p>For a number of reasons, it&rsquo;s a lie, starting with what Axios admitted in its own report &mdash;&nbsp;that some states and cities, including the biggest one, New York, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/02\/16\/is-crime-going-down-or-have-democrat-run-cities-just-given-up-on-reporting-it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">aren&rsquo;t disclosing<\/a> their violent crime numbers, or they fail to submit them to organizations like the FBI. It&rsquo;s similar to when Democrats and the media claim that more violent crime is taking place in red states than blue ones, while <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/10\/12\/the-lefts-funny-new-lie-its-the-red-states-with-more-crime\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">deliberately concealing<\/a> that it&rsquo;s concentrated in Democrat-run metropolises with elected Democrat prosecutors and mayors.<\/p>\n<p>But more importantly, Democrats and their co-conspirators in the media are deliberately specifying &ldquo;violent crime,&rdquo; rather than simply &ldquo;crime,&rdquo; for a reason. Violent crime, broadly speaking, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/lawyers-for-mich-high-school-shooting-suspect-push-for-move-to-youth-detention-center\/\" title=\"Lawyers for Mich. high school shooting suspect push for move to youth detention center\">includes murder<\/a>, homicide, and assault. By contrast, <em>crime<\/em> crime includes all violations of the law, such as looting, carjacking, robbery, and destruction of property. That&rsquo;s the difference between being raped and having your car stolen, the difference between someone being murdered and a convenience store being raided.<\/p>\n<p>True, a normal person would rather be pickpocketed than sexually assaulted, but the choice isn&rsquo;t either-or. The choice is safe or not. Safety isn&rsquo;t solely about physical harm. It&rsquo;s about establishing peace and security, not just the absence of violence.<\/p>\n<p>That brings us to the Council on Criminal Justice, a <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2023\/12\/12\/biden-doj-taps-group-funded-by-deep-pocketed-left-wing-orgs-to-guide-gun-violence-reduction-efforts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">left-leaning nonprofit<\/a> that none other than the Harris-Biden administration has partnered with to guide its agenda on gun restrictions. The CCJ also produces reports on crime trends of all kinds. It just so happens to have published one in <a href=\"https:\/\/counciloncj.org\/crime-trends-in-u-s-cities-mid-year-2024-update\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">late July<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Some key findings in that report:<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; &ldquo;There were &hellip; more nonresidential burglaries in the first half of 2024 than during the same period five years earlier.&rdquo; Nonresidential burglaries &mdash;&nbsp;theft from places of business &mdash; have also marginally decreased from the previous three years. But going back to the same time period in 2019, before the year of BLM and Patron Saint George Floyd, it&rsquo;s still up just shy of 15 percent.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; &ldquo;Motor vehicle thefts more than doubled during the timeframe &hellip;&rdquo; Car theft decreased in the first half of 2024 compared to the previous year, but it remains nearly 30 percent higher than in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; &ldquo;[S]hoplifting is 10% higher.&rdquo; Shoplifting has increased each year of the Harris-Biden presidency. Comparing the first half of 2021 to the first half of this year, it&rsquo;s a 41 percent increase.<\/p>\n<p>In short, all of the carjacking, looting, and theft is still happening at a higher rate under the Harris-Biden presidency than before. Coincidentally, this news comes as Kamala Harris, the newly designated Democratic presidential nominee, is rebranding herself as tough on crime, moving away from her previous stance as a proponent of defunding the police during her 2020 campaign.<\/p>\n<p>However, it&#8217;s important to recognize that the assertion about a steady decrease in violent crime over the past four years isn&#8217;t solely intended to bolster Harris&#8217;s image; similar claims have surfaced periodically before. For instance, CNN reported on June 10 that &#8220;violent crime is down and the U.S. murder rate is plummeting,&#8221; while NBC News echoed this sentiment on June 11 with reports of &#8220;historic declines&#8221; in violent crime rates according to new FBI statistics.<\/p>\n<p>This narrative is gaining traction among Democrats who hope voters will overlook reality as they position Harris for presidency. White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre reiterated claims about plunging violent crime rates multiple times this week.<\/p>\n<p>However, there are several reasons why these claims are misleading. For starters, Axios itself acknowledged that some states and cities\u2014most notably New York\u2014are not reporting their violent crime statistics or failing to submit them to organizations like the FBI. This situation mirrors how Democrats and media outlets assert higher levels of violent crime in red states compared to blue ones while conveniently ignoring its concentration within Democrat-led urban areas with elected Democrat officials.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, it\u2019s crucial to note that Democrats and their media allies specifically emphasize \u201cviolent crime\u201d rather than just \u201ccrime.\u201d Violent crimes encompass serious offenses such as murder and assault; however, general crimes include various illegal activities like looting and carjacking.
