So, for now, the union does not have an agreement with CPS on this issue and we do not believe they can mandate disclosure until we complete negotiations. We recommend CTU members wait to complete the disclosure survey if you believe it could negatively impact any accommodations you have been granted or requested.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"6.3301435406699\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">today <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CTULocal1?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@CTULocal1<\/a>&#8216;s president <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SharkeyCTU1?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@SharkeyCTU1<\/a> told members not to tell CPS they got the vaccine so that they can continue working from home. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/9uoHe8YtU7\">pic.twitter.com\/9uoHe8YtU7<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Kathryn Rose (@lphshistory) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/lphshistory\/status\/1371898798063116297?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 16, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>That means that if the teachers have been accommodated by working at home, and revealing they had gotten the vaccine would imperil that situation, the teachers should simply avoid completing a disclosure survey that the Chicago Public Schools had sent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe school district and the Chicago Teachers Union have been involved in a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/biden-chicago-teachers-in-person\">public battle<\/a>&nbsp;over whether to resume in-person instruction after months of virtual learning. The dispute centers on what the union has deemed inadequate safety protocols,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/foxwilmington.com\/headlines\/chicago-teachers-union-tells-members-not-to-reveal-if-they-received-covid-vaccine\/\">Fox Wilmington<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>Sharkey stated, \u201cI&nbsp;don\u2019t have a problem with people answering this kind of survey. I&nbsp;do have a problem with CPS not bargaining it with us,\u201d WBBM reported, adding, \u201cSharkey said another disclosure deterrent may be teachers fearful of losing their third quarter accommodations allowing them to teach from home, even though they are supposed to remain intact.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sharkey asserted, \u201cNow CPS appears to be saying, \u2018No, we are going to review them for this quarter.\u2019 And the problem is that people have their life set up around these accommodations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Chicago Democrat mayor Lori Lightfoot has criticized the CTU, saying it has aspirations \u201cakin to a political party. \u2026 When you have unions that have other aspirations beyond being a union, and maybe being something akin to a political party, then there\u2019s always going to be conflict. \u2026 I think, ultimately, they\u2019d like to take over not only Chicago Public Schools, but take over running the city government. That\u2019ll play itself out over time. I don\u2019t really spend time, and certainly not in the middle of a pandemic, worrying about the politics. But politics intrudes, always.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In mid-December the Chicago Board of Education decided to resume some in-school classes in January, but the Chicago Teachers Union was vehemently opposed to the idea. CTU President Jesse Sharkey stated, \u201cThis is the most difficult time. Transmission is highest. It\u2019s dark and cold.&nbsp;People are indoors and the holidays are coming, so there\u2019s going to be a lot of transmission.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe union pointed to recent surveys showing two-thirds of Chicago Public Schools parents refusing to send their kids back,\u201d&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/wgntv.com\/news\/chicago-news\/chicago-board-of-education-hold-meeting-as-cps-ctu-clash-over-return-to-classrooms\/\">WGN<\/a>&nbsp;reported before the holiday break. \u201cThe union is arguing that it\u2019s much safer to offer a beefed-up remote learning plan until the vaccine can do its work to reduce the risk of COVID-19 infection.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Chicago Public Schools (CPS) CEO Janice Jackson countered by saying that parents are calling for a return to the classroom, asserting, \u201cWe are serving a large swath of our families who believe this is the best choice for their students, and we believe we have a moral obligation to do so.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
