This was a clear infringement on free speech by an external entity. However, what went largely unnoticed was the swift action taken by a left-leaning PAC following the discussion, urging the Biden administration’s Federal Election Commission (FEC) to penalize Musk for having the conversation with Trump. In a filing submitted to the FEC on Tuesday, End Citizens United—named after the Supreme Court ruling that upheld free speech rights for independent groups in political spending—described the Monday meeting as “blatantly illegal,” claiming it amounted to an unlawful contribution to Trump’s campaign.

The complaint asserted that Musk’s resources used for hosting Trump constituted an improper corporate in-kind contribution that violated campaign finance laws. According to their statement, “the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971 prohibits corporations from making contributions to federal candidates, and federal candidates may not accept such contributions.” The complaint further explained that any provision of value given to a federal candidate related to their election qualifies as a “contribution.” While there is an exemption for news stories or editorials distributed through media outlets, they argued that if an entity entitled to this press exemption engages in activities outside its normal journalistic functions, it could still be considered a contribution.

End Citizens United contended that due to “the considerable resources of X Corp. dedicated” towards hosting Trump’s event—including real-time staff assistance for technical issues and Musk’s personal involvement—the support provided was significantly valuable for Trump’s campaign. Notably absent from their complaint was Musk’s own tweet expressing willingness to host Vice President Kamala Harris on X Spaces.

Additionally troubling were comments made by End Citizens United president Tiffany Muller alongside their announcement: she characterized the Trump-Musk rally as not only chaotic but also as an illegal corporate donation undermining campaign finance laws and setting a dangerous precedent for unrestricted corporate involvement in campaigns. She called upon the FEC to investigate this event funded by corporate interests and hold all parties accountable.

Assuming Muller’s critique about technical difficulties during the event holds true—and disregarding her grammatical errors—it raises questions about whether similar discussions should be allowed freely without fear of repercussions from those who oppose them politically. It’s worth noting that Musk had previously hosted Florida Governor Ron DeSantis—a figure who had been critical of Trump during election season—on X Spaces without facing similar scrutiny.

Moreover, while Big Tech companies openly favor one political party over another without backlash from End Citizens United—such as Google admitting its algorithm suppressed information regarding attempts against Trump while promoting news about Harris—their sudden concern over one conversation with Trump highlights inconsistencies in their advocacy efforts regarding free speech and political engagement.

In summary, while some entities may express outrage over perceived violations of free speech when it suits them politically—as seen with this recent attempt at censorship—it underscores how deeply entrenched anti-free speech sentiments can be within certain factions of Western politics today

[33651
38117,38118,38116,4250,3634
post-2324369","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-the-western-journal","tag-federal-punishment","tag-legal-controversy","tag-liberal-group","tag-musk","tag-trump
["GET
