A recent incident involving⁢ Asif Raza Merchant, a ⁣Pakistani⁤ national with known ties to terrorism, has intensified criticism of the Bureau. Despite being flagged by immigration authorities upon his arrival in the U.S., Merchant was allowed entry on a special parole, reportedly to monitor him for intelligence purposes. However, just three months later, he was arrested for allegedly being involved in a ‍plot to assassinate former President Donald Trump, raising‌ concerns ‌about the FBI’s judgment in managing known threats. This incident is viewed within ‍the broader context of a declining trust in the FBI, particularly following controversies linked to former Director⁤ James Comey and ongoing concerns that the agency prioritizes political agendas over national security. The agents who interviewed Merchan found him “polite and cooperative throughout encounter,” Just the News reported, quoting an FBI interview memo.

Or maybe it was because the FBI planned to keep an eye on him, using him as unwitting bait to maybe catch bigger fish in the subterranean sea of terror networks.

That’s how unnamed FBI sources framed it, according to Just the News. But they also pointed out the obvious dangers of simply letting dangerous individuals go free on the expectation that the benefits gained in surveillance would more than make up for any potential hazards.

It’s playing with fire — and in the real world, innocent people get burned.

The sources cited the Obama-era operation known as “Fast and Furious,” in which a plan to trace illegal guns ended up turning into a deadly fiasco, with more than 1,000 weapons disappearing — presumably into the hands of criminals. Two of those guns were found near the scene of the 2010 murder of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry.

The Merchant case hasn’t come with any corpses — at least not that have been publicized so far — so that’s something.

But the fact that the FBI would consider it a worthy risk to allow a known terror suspect, with known ties to Iran — a terrorist-run nation that has been at war with the United States since 1979 — beggars belief.

Or rather, it would beggar belief if the country hadn’t been treated for years to the spectacle of an agency that has exchanged a reputation for stellar law enforcement to become known as an ideologically driven organization.

Americans who follow the news these days see more about an FBI committed to stomping on conservatives — say, parents who speak out at school board meetings — than about an agency battling criminals or the country’s enemies.

Much of the bureau’s current reputational problems no doubt stem from the days of former Director James Comey, who was fired by Trump in 2017. Comey was behind the smearing of retired Gen. Michael Flynn, Trump’s first <a href="https://www.conservativenewsdaily.net/breaking-news/betrayed-from-within-patrick-byrne-blasts-white-house-staff-after-attending-election-meeting-with-president-trump-sydney-powell-and-gen-flynn/" title="“Betrayed From Within”: Patrick Byrne Blasts White House Staff After Attending Election Meeting With President Trump, Sydney Powell and Gen. Those were the kind of games Comey played in American politics.

But the FBI since Comey’s departure clearly hasn’t proven itself to be reformed from those dark days.

Director Christopher Wray, the man Trump appointed to replace Comey, has been a disappointment known more for evasive answers to Republican senators and representatives than he is for being a new broom that sweeps clean.

And now a reputable news source is reporting that the FBI allowed a man with known terror ties into the country, only to arrest him three months later on charges of organizing an Iranian-backed plot to kill the 45th president.

Merchant was arrested July 12, according to a Justice Department news release — one day before Trump narrowly survived an assassination attempt at a campaign rally.

That isn’t to suggest there was any link between Merchant and Trump’s would-be assassin in Butler, Pennsylvania, but it does highlight how dangerous threats are.

If the FBI was playing Merchant for a dupe, it was playing with fire.

And no American who’s followed the news over the past decade should even trust this agency’s leadership with a pack of matches.

* Name

*

* Message

* All fields are required.

Success!

     function firefly_sc() { if( typeof window.captchaPublicKey==typeof undefined ){ console.error('window.captchaPublicKey is not defined'); } grecaptcha.execute( window.captchaPublicKey, { action: 'submit_correction' } ).then( function( token ) { var opts={ action: 'firefly_sc_submit', name: document.querySelector( '.entry-submit-correction [name="name"]' ).value, : document.querySelector( '.entry-submit-correction [name=""]' ).value, message: document.querySelector( '.entry-submit-correction [name="message"]' ).value, post_id: firefly_post_id, cap_token: token } var inputs=[ 'name', '', 'message' ]; for( var i=0; i <inputs.length; i++ ) if( ! The once-respected reputation of the Federal Bureau of Investigation has been severely damaged among conservatives for years, long before its covert actions against Donald Trump and his supporters became widely known. A recent report regarding the bureau’s interactions with a man arrested in July over a potential assassination plot against Trump linked to Iran has only exacerbated this situation.

According to Just the News, FBI counterterrorism agents interviewed Pakistani national Asif Raza Merchant upon his arrival at George Bush International Airport in Houston in April. His immigration records indicated that he was flagged by the Department of Homeland Security as a “Lookout Qualified Person of Interest.” Despite this, he was permitted entry into the U.S. on special parole, possibly due to his smooth demeanor during questioning; agents described him as “polite and cooperative,” according to an FBI interview memo.

Alternatively, it may have been part of an FBI strategy to monitor him as potential bait for larger terror networks. However, unnamed sources within the bureau acknowledged the risks involved in allowing dangerous individuals free rein under such pretenses—risks that could lead to innocent lives being harmed. They referenced past operations like “Fast and Furious,” which aimed at tracing illegal firearms but resulted in significant losses and tragic outcomes.

While no fatalities have emerged from Merchant’s case so far, it is alarming that the FBI would consider it acceptable to allow a known terror suspect with connections to Iran—a nation hostile towards America since 1979—into their country. This situation raises serious doubts about an agency that has shifted from its original law enforcement mission towards one perceived as ideologically motivated.

Many Americans today see more evidence of an FBI focused on suppressing conservative voices—such as parents protesting at school board meetings—rather than combating crime or external threats. Much of this negative perception can be traced back to former Director James Comey’s tenure when he oversaw actions like undermining General Michael Flynn and promoting unfounded allegations about Russian collusion during Trump’s presidency.

Since Comey’s departure, current Director Christopher Wray has not restored confidence; instead, he is often criticized for providing evasive responses rather than demonstrating effective leadership or reform within the agency. Now reports indicate that they allowed someone with known terrorist ties into America only to arrest him months later for allegedly orchestrating an Iranian-backed plot against Trump—a mere day before Trump narrowly escaped an assassination attempt at a campaign rally.

While there’s no direct link established between Merchant and Trump’s would-be assassin in Pennsylvania, it underscores how perilous these threats can be if indeed they were using Merchant as unwitting bait. Given recent history over the last decade, it’s hard for any American following these events not to question whether they can trust this agency’s leadership even with something as simple as matches

[34943,5591,3813,3646,3634
post-2322175","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","tag-assassination-attempt","tag-fbi","tag-immigration","tag-security","tag-trump
["GET
