I am excited to get to work and make a difference.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Finally, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsday.com\/long-island\/politics\/elections\/nassau-gop-supermajority-legislature-election-qr1egq33\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Newsday<\/a>, the 2023 elections returned a 12-7 Republican majority in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nassaucountyny.gov\/504\/Legislators\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/new-york-county-passes-bill-to-allow-cops-to-sue-rioters\/\" title=\"New York County Passes Bill To Allow Cops To Sue Rioters\">county legislature<\/a><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Best of all, Nassau&rsquo;s Republicans have gone beyond mere words.<\/p>\n<p>In a 12-7 party-line vote on Monday, and in response to mask-wearing protesters responsible for a surge in anti-Semitic incidents since <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/hamas-leader-assassinated-will-terrorists-shaking-not-single-one-safe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hamas&rsquo;<\/a> Oct. 7 attack on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/defeated-squad-member-threatens-pro-israeli-groups-loss-coming-tear-kingdom\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Israel<\/a>, the Nassau County Legislature adopted a ban on masks in public places, albeit with some exceptions for health, religious or cultural reasons, per <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/mask-ban-long-island-new-york-7891145ee73aa894200b8360ba65ee4d\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Associated Press<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, while Republican majorities in local governments can do wonders for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/washington-d-c-mayor-extends-emergency-declaration-for-15-days\/\" title=\"Washington, D.C. mayor extends emergency declaration for 15 days\">public safety<\/a>, other factors also require consideration.<\/p>\n<p>For instance, affluent communities tend to take care of their own, even if it means ignoring the rest of America.<\/p>\n<p>Thus, unsurprisingly, the list of 25 safest communities also featured five of the 15 counties <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usnews.com\/news\/healthiest-communities\/slideshows\/richest-counties-in-america?slide=16\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">U.S. News &amp; World Report<\/a> identified as wealthiest in America by median household income in 2023. Nassau, ranked 1st in safety, came in as the 9th-wealthiest county.<\/p>\n<p>Other counties that appeared on both lists were: Arlington, VA; Loudoun, VA; Los Alamos, NM and San Mateo, CA.<\/p>\n<p>Safety rankings aside, we should not assume special virtue in the populations of those counties. After all, the wealth of Arlington, Loudoun and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lanl.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Los Alamos<\/a> in particular derives from proximity to federal agencies.<\/p>\n<p>As one would expect in light of those counties&rsquo; government-fueled prosperity, voters there do not choose Republicans in national elections. In fact, in the 2020 election, President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-bidens-misstatement-says-no-peaceful-transfer-power-trump-wins\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Joe Biden<\/a> won <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/2020-election\/results\/new-mexico\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Los Alamos<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/2020-election\/results\/virginia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Arlington and Loudoun<\/a> by gargantuan margins. Biden also won <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usnews.com\/news\/healthiest-communities\/california\/san-mateo-county\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">big-tech<\/a> dominated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/2020-election\/results\/california\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">San Mateo<\/a> and even <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/2020-election\/results\/new-york\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nassau<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In other words, the presence of sane Republicans in local government does not guarantee that peaceful, secure and wealthy counties will choose those same levels of peace, security and prosperity for the rest of America.<\/p>\n<p>Nonetheless, we must take what we can get, where we can get it.
