He did not deploy to Afghanistan or Iraq or a combat zone as part of his service,&rdquo; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/08\/07\/politics\/tim-walz-military-record-vance-attack\/index.html#:~:text=Walz%20deployed%20with%20the%20Minnesota,as%20part%20of%20his%20service.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CNN<\/a> said.<\/p>\n<p>By contrast, Vance did deploy to Iraq with the U.S. Marines in 2005 and 2006, and therefore is a combat veteran.<\/p>\n<p>Both CNN and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/08\/07\/us\/politics\/vance-walz-military-record.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The New York Times<\/a> seemed to want to downplay this experience.<\/p>\n<p>The outlets both pointed out Vance&rsquo;s occupation was listed as a combat correspondent and that he did not fight as a frontline combatant.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, the future senator still likely was very much in harm&rsquo;s way, given over 75 percent of injuries sustained by American troops in Iraq and Afghanistan were caused by improvised explosive devices commonly placed along roadsides, according to a 2010 study published by the <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/20370999\/#:~:text=Explosive%20mechanisms%20of%20injury%2C%20with,75%25%20of%20all%20combat%20casualties.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">National Institutes of Health<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Harris made Walz&rsquo;s military service front and center at their first rally together in Philadelphia on Tuesday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-jd-vance-drops-bomb-tim-walz-completely-dismantles-military-betrayal-ever-war\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">saying<\/a>, &ldquo;To his fellow veterans, he is Sgt. Maj. Walz.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>However, retired Minnesota Guard Command Sgt. Maj. Behrends stepped up and deployed to Iraq for nearly two years in Walz&rsquo;s absence.<\/p>\n<p>Vance <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-jd-vance-drops-bomb-tim-walz-completely-dismantles-military-betrayal-ever-war\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">responded<\/a> to Walz&rsquo;s decision to leave the military, saying at a campaign event in Michigan, &ldquo;You know what really bothers me about Tim Walz as a Marine who served his country in uniform? When the United States Marine Corps, when the United State of America asked me to go to Iraq to serve my country, I did it. I did it when they asked me to do it, and I did it honorably and I&rsquo;m very proud of that service.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;When Tim Walz was asked by his country to go to Iraq, you know what he did? He dropped out of the Army and allowed his unit to go without him,&rdquo; Vance noted.<\/p>\n<p>The senator also highlighted Walz&rsquo;s stolen valor.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;He said we shouldn&rsquo;t allow weapons &lsquo;that I used in war&rsquo; to be [used] on America&rsquo;s streets,&rdquo; Vance said. &ldquo;Well, I wonder, Tim Walz, when were you ever in war?
