Jerry\u2019s \u2018Effectively Concede\u2019 Opponent\u2019s Central Argument in Israel Lawsuit\">illegal boycott<\/a> to prevent advertisers from spending their money with companies that openly advocate for free speech. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/uscode\/text\/15\/1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Section 1 of the Sherman Act<\/a>&nbsp;explicitly prohibits organizations from conspiracy against commerce or &ldquo;restraint of trade.&rdquo; X&rsquo;s antitrust lawsuit, which was <a href=\"https:\/\/fingfx.thomsonreuters.com\/gfx\/legaldocs\/zdvxxwoqzvx\/X%20Corp%20v%20World%20Federation%20of%20Advertisers%2020240806.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">filed<\/a> in a Texas court on Tuesday, aims to punish Global Alliance for Responsible Media (GARM) and several of its members, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2024\/08\/06\/scoop-x-sues-major-brands-ad-industry-group-for-antitrust\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">including<\/a> CVS Health, Mars, &Oslash;rsted, Unilever, and the World Federation of Advertisers, for trying to suppress online free speech by unfairly targeting some of the biggest promoters of the First Amendment.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-c48cc4f9e154efc2429dff5a82e6313d fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-c48cc4f9e154efc2429dff5a82e6313d\"><\/div>\n<p>&ldquo;No small group of people should be able to monopolize what gets monetized,&rdquo; Correspondence obtained by the committee shows GARM Co-Founder Rob Rakowitz bragged about and even &ldquo;took credit for Twitter&rsquo;s revenue decline,&rdquo; according to the committee <a href=\"https:\/\/judiciary.house.gov\/sites\/evo-subsites\/republicans-judiciary.house.gov\/files\/evo-media-document\/2024-07-10%20GARMs%20Harm%20-%20How%20the%20Worlds%20Biggest%20Brands%20Seek%20to%20Control%20Online%20Speech.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">report<\/a>. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><\/figure>\n<p>According to&nbsp;Yaccarino, &ldquo;X has never been more committed to innovating and expanding all of our global town square.&rdquo; This is especially important given GARM&rsquo;s anti-free speech history and attempts to use government-backed censors like <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/05\/25\/state-funded-university-of-texas-managed-censorship-project-targeting-conservative-outlets\/\">Global Disinformation Index<\/a> (GDI) and <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/11\/15\/meet-newsguard-the-government-backed-censorship-tool-billed-as-an-arbiter-of-truth\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NewsGuard<\/a>, which repeatedly blacklist conservative outlets <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/12\/06\/state-of-texas-joins-the-federalist-daily-wire-in-suing-the-federal-censorship-industrial-complex\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">such as The Federalist<\/a>, to determine who gets advertisers&rsquo; dollars.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-9ceb250253475515e106bb954fb39d2f fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-9ceb250253475515e106bb954fb39d2f\"><\/div>\n<p>&ldquo;To put it simply, people are hurt when the marketplace of ideas is undermined and some viewpoints are not funded over others as part of an illegal boycott,&rdquo; Yaccarino wrote in an <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/lindayaX\/status\/1820838134470328676\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">article<\/a> explaining X&rsquo;s motivations for the legal action. &ldquo;This behavior is a stain on a great industry, and cannot be allowed to continue.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>According to Yaccarino, X&rsquo;s legal action is &ldquo;about more than damages.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;[W]e have to fix a broken ecosystem that allows this illegal activity to occur,&rdquo; she continued.<\/p>\n<p>X has long partnered with GARM to advance its advertising goals. Communications obtained by the committee revealed GARM Co-Founder Rob Rakowitz boasting about contributing to Twitter&#8217;s revenue decline.<\/p>\n<p>Yaccarino emphasized X&#8217;s commitment to fostering innovation and expanding its platform while criticizing GARM\u2019s history of anti-free speech actions. She argued that when certain viewpoints are financially marginalized due to illegal boycotts, it harms public discourse. Yaccarino described this behavior as detrimental to the industry and insisted it must not continue.<\/p>\n<p>She noted that this legal action goes beyond seeking damages; it&#8217;s about addressing systemic issues enabling such unlawful practices.
