Following the drug’s discovery⁣ on July 2, 2023, Cheatle allegedly⁤ expressed a desire to destroy the evidence, becoming frustrated when this⁣ did not occur. Although Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi denied any wrongdoing or intent ⁤to destroy evidence, the agency’s investigation, which closed after just 11 days with⁣ no suspects identified, has faced public skepticism and ridicule.

The situation was particularly sensitive given ‌Hunter⁣ Biden’s history ‍with drug use. The cocaine was found⁣ in an area accessible to the President’s family, raising concerns about security ⁤protocols and the image ⁤of the⁢ Secret Service. A report from RealClearPolitics released on Monday revealed that following the drug’s discovery on July 2, 2023, Cheatle wanted the bag to be destroyed and was reportedly upset when her request was not fulfilled. A source mentioned, “A decision was made not to dispose of the evidence, which really angered Cheatle.” Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi denied this claim; however, many Americans are left questioning how the agency handled the investigation.

No suspects were ever identified in relation to the cocaine incident—the Secret Service concluded its investigation after just 11 days, stating it was impossible to determine who was responsible. This decision drew ridicule from Republicans and social media users alike. Additionally, a Uniformed Division officer assigned to investigate initially expressed a desire to follow specific crime-scene protocols but was removed from his position after discussing this with Cheatle and then-Deputy Director Ron Rowe.

Given Hunter Biden’s well-documented history with drugs (including details in his memoir), finding cocaine in the White House posed a unique challenge for Cheatle. She had close ties with Jill Biden, which reportedly helped her secure her role as head of the Secret Service.

The discovery of cocaine at such a high-profile location inevitably caused embarrassment for the Bidens—something that did occur. Despite Guglielmi’s denial regarding any attempts by Cheatle or others within the agency to destroy evidence related to this case, Crabtree noted that disposing of illegal substances would have been standard procedure if they had been found by agents assigned specifically to protect family members in private areas of their residence.

However, since a uniformed officer discovered this particular baggie and feared it might be hazardous material—prompting him to call emergency services—the situation escalated into an evacuation that included reporters and led to public knowledge about it. The substance was sent for testing at an FBI lab where no fingerprints were found; however, there was a “partial hit” regarding DNA evidence.

The term “partial hit” is somewhat ambiguous but typically indicates law enforcement has identified DNA matching someone closely related within a limited group of individuals. Nevertheless, despite these findings, the Secret Service decided not to pursue further investigations due to concerns over civil rights violations—a rationale met with skepticism by some commentators who pointed out inconsistencies based on past law enforcement actions.

Ultimately, it appears that Cheatle aimed for swift closure regarding this incident—and she got what she wanted as quickly as possible. This comes amid scrutiny following another serious event: an assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump during which bullets came alarmingly close; subsequently leading Cheatle’s leadership under fire and resulting in her resignation.

In light of these two significant incidents—the White House cocaine find and Trump’s assassination attempt—the Secret Service under Cheatle has already faced considerable public embarrassment.
