He acknowledged that the Secret Service had not yet conducted interviews with \u2064<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/president-trump-pledges-orderly-transition-of-power\/\" title=\"President Trump pledges orderly transition of power\">local law enforcement<\/a> regarding the incident, but emphasized that responsibility for\u2062 the security failure lies with the agency. We&rsquo;re not trying to shift blame to anybody.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Ex-Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle said immediately after the failed assassination attempt that local law enforcement was responsible for the building from which the shooter fired, and said the rooftop was left without security because it was &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/07\/16\/secret-service-director-we-didnt-put-snipers-on-the-roof-because-it-was-kind-of-sloped\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sloped<\/a>.&rdquo; <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;There&rsquo;s a safety factor that would be considered there that we wouldn&rsquo;t want to put somebody up on a sloped roof,&rdquo; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;What I saw made me ashamed,&rdquo; Rowe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2024\/07\/30\/secret-service-trump-shooting-security-failures\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">told <\/a>senators on Capitol Hill last week without having fired anybody as acting Secret Service chief. &ldquo;I cannot defend why that roof was not better secured.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Cheatle <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/07\/23\/secret-service-director-kimberly-cheatle-resigns-in-disgrace-more-than-a-week-after-attempt-on-trumps-life\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">resigned <\/a>shortly after <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/07\/22\/secret-service-director-claims-there-are-no-recordings-of-radio-traffic-from-trump-assassination-attempt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">struggling <\/a>to answer lawmakers&rsquo; questions on Capitol Hill. Preliminary findings of an investigation into the shooting by Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/07\/22\/reports-secret-service-skipped-security-briefing-wasnt-even-planning-to-send-snipers-to-trump-rally\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">found<\/a> the Secret Service did not even initially plan to send counter-snipers to Trump&rsquo;s Pennsylvania event, and the Republican&rsquo;s campaign was repeatedly <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/07\/13\/democrats-started-trying-to-strip-trumps-secret-service-protection-just-months-before-shooting\/\">denied <\/a>requests for beefed up security. Local law enforcement had also <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/07\/17\/local-police-told-secret-service-they-didnt-have-manpower-to-secure-building-used-by-trumps-would-be-assassin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">warned <\/a>Secret Service about the lack of manpower to keep the former president safe at the event in Butler County.<\/p>\n<p>A new <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/08\/02\/majority-blame-secret-service-for-trump-assassination-attempt-few-trust-agency-poll\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">poll<\/a> that came out Thursday found an overwhelming majority of Americans blame the Secret Service for the security failures that jeopardized the 2024 election. According to an Associated Press survey, 7 in 10 Americans believe &ldquo;the Secret Service bears at least a moderate amount of responsibility for the assassination attempt&rdquo; with 4 in 10 believing the agency &ldquo;bears a high level of responsibility.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The same poll also found 3 in 10 Americans were &ldquo;extremely or very confident&rdquo; the Secret Service can keep presidential contenders safe.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>      Tristan Justice is the western correspondent for The Federalist and the author of Social Justice Redux, a conservative newsletter on culture, health, and wellness. Watters questioned why it took so long for them to appear at Butler and noted that when they finally did arrive there, their presence was limited&#8230; pic.twitter.com\/1P6SP2N9jp\u2014 Jesse Watters (@JesseBWatters) August 3, 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Rowe also mentioned last week that the agency has yet to consult with local law enforcement regarding security failures attributed by his disgraced predecessor to police shortcomings which resulted in injuries and fatalities at a rally. &#8220;We look forward to interviewing them and hearing their perspective,&#8221; Rowe assured. &#8220;This was a failure on the part of the Secret Service; we are not attempting to shift blame onto anyone else.&#8221; Former Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle had previously claimed responsibility lay with local law enforcement for securing the building from which an assailant fired shots since it lacked adequate rooftop security due to its sloped design. &#8220;There are safety considerations involved; we wouldn&#8217;t want someone stationed on a sloped roof,&#8221; she explained.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I felt ashamed by what I witnessed,&#8221; Rowe told senators last week without having dismissed anyone from their positions as acting chief of the Secret Service. &#8220;I cannot justify why that roof wasn&#8217;t more securely monitored.&#8221; Cheatle resigned shortly after facing difficulties answering lawmakers&#8217; inquiries on Capitol Hill. Preliminary findings from an investigation led by Senator Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) revealed that initially there were no plans for deploying counter-snipers at Trump&#8217;s Pennsylvania event, despite repeated requests from his campaign for enhanced security measures being denied. Local authorities had also alerted the Secret Service about insufficient personnel available for ensuring Trump&#8217;s safety during this event in Butler County.<\/p>\n<p>A recent poll released Thursday indicated that a significant majority of Americans hold the Secret Service accountable for these security lapses affecting the 2024 election&#8217;s integrity.
