The exchange between the men at Tuesday’s hearing became a shouting match as Hawley demanded that someone be held responsible for the Secret Service failure in Butler, and Rowe maintained the agency needed time to investigate.

Check it out here:

Josh Hawley and Acting Secret Service Director Ronald L. Hawley’s letter gave him a deadline of Aug. 8 — a week from the day the letter was sent — to provide records about CSD staffing as well as Rowe’s “personal involvement” in those decisions.

Since Hawley’s letter states that the whistleblower alleges the Secret Service had retaliated against agents who complained about security issues surrounding Trump events, the letter also demands “The number of Secret Service agents who have raised concerns about security practices within the Secret Service and are currently facing disciplinary action, as well as the nature of the concerns and the type of disciplinary action.”

Finally, it seeks “a breakdown of Secret Service personnel at the July 13 rally by division or unit.”

In other words, the numbers will tell the story. And Rowe’s personal responsibility for those numbers should be clear.

Is the whistleblower correct? Is he or she in a position to know how Secret Service personnel decisions are made and reporting that knowledge accurately? (God knows, Trump supporters learned years ago — thanks to Democratic liars like Adam Schiff — that the term “whistleblower” can just as easily describe a politically motivated hatchet man as it can a noble source of solid information.)

As it stands, the American people still don’t have a full story about the cascade of security failures that led to Trump being shot in the ear — centimeters from death — led to the death of a Trump supporter, and the critical wounding of two others.

And the country still doesn’t know how deeply the Secret Service might be infected with the rot of political polarization, and consequent incompetence, that has become the hallmark of certain arms of the federal government — the Justice Department and the FBI in particular — since the presidency of Barack Obama.

And it doesn’t know if exchanging Kimberley Cheatle at the top of the Secret Service for another agency career official like Ronald Rowe has changed things for the better. Or if things have actually gotten worse.

The reality is that instead of the picture becoming clearer since July 13, when a 20-year-old almost managed to kill the 45th and potentially 47th president of the United States, it just keeps getting cloudier.

The Secret Service — and the man who’s not in charge of it — could have a whole lot more than the events of July 13 to be ashamed of.

* Name

*

* Message

* All fields are required.

Success!

     function firefly_sc() { if( typeof window.captchaPublicKey==typeof undefined ){ console.error('window.captchaPublicKey is not defined'); } grecaptcha.execute( window.captchaPublicKey, { action: 'submit_correction' } ).then( function( token ) { var opts={ action: 'firefly_sc_submit', name: document.querySelector( '.entry-submit-correction [name="name"]' ).value, : document.querySelector( '.entry-submit-correction [name=""]' ).value, message: document.querySelector( '.entry-submit-correction [name="message"]' ).value, post_id: firefly_post_id, cap_token: token } var inputs=[ 'name', '', 'message' ]; for( var i=0; i <inputs.length; i++ ) if( ! However, a whistleblower in contact with Republican Senator Josh Hawley claims that Rowe played a role in creating the circumstances that allowed this incident to happen. Hawley has given Rowe until next week to refute these allegations.

According to Fox News, Hawley stated that the whistleblower accused Rowe of being responsible for staffing shortages that contributed to Trump’s assassination attempt. If true, this suggests that despite Kimberly Cheatle’s resignation as former Secret Service Director due to disgraceful conduct, there remains incompetence at high levels within an agency once known for its excellence in protecting presidents and presidential candidates.

In a letter sent to Rowe on Thursday, Hawley mentioned claims from the whistleblower indicating that while serving as deputy director under Cheatle, Rowe was behind budget cuts affecting the agency’s Counter Surveillance Division (CSD). These cuts allegedly resulted in inadequate security during Trump’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The CSD is responsible for assessing threats at event locations prior to their occurrence; however, it reportedly did not evaluate or attend Trump’s rally site.

Hawley’s letter pointed out: “The whistleblower further alleges you personally directed significant cuts to CSD,” including reducing its manpower by 20%. He also noted: “You did not mention this during your Senate testimony when asked about manpower reductions.”

Tensions were evident between Hawley and Rowe during Tuesday’s hearing when they engaged in a heated exchange over accountability for security failures related to Trump’s event. In response to inquiries about allegations made against him in Hawley’s letter during a Friday news conference, Rowe stated his agency would address those claims but emphasized ongoing support from CSD for high-profile events involving former President Trump.

Rowe acknowledged accusations regarding his involvement with personnel decisions but maintained confidence in his division’s current operations. He indicated they would respond formally once permitted by Congress.

Hawley’s correspondence set an August 8 deadline for Rowe to provide documentation concerning CSD staffing and details regarding his personal involvement with those decisions. The letter also requested information about any Secret Service agents facing disciplinary action after raising concerns about security practices related specifically to Trump events.

Ultimately, clarity surrounding these issues remains elusive as investigations continue into what led up to Trump’s near-assassination—an incident resulting not only in serious injury but also loss of life among supporters—and whether political biases have infiltrated operational integrity within agencies like the Secret Service since Barack Obama’s presidency.
