Trump<\/em>. Smith charged Trump with four counts of trying to overturn the results of the 2020 election, including conspiracy to defraud the U.S., a year ago. Prosecutors allege Trump tried to stop the peaceful transfer of power by pressuring state and local officials, in an effort that led to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/january-6\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Jan. 6, 2021, riot<\/a> at the U.S. Capitol.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Chutkan will likely also have to determine whether the Supreme Court&rsquo;s decision concerning the charge of obstruction of an official proceeding, which was used in cases related to hundreds of Jan. 6 rioters, will have repercussions for Trump.
