The DOJ is seeking a &ldquo;permanent injunction to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/europe-canada-closes-airspace-to-russian-civil-aviation\/\" title=\"Europe, Canada Closes Airspace to Russian Civil Aviation\">prevent future violations<\/a> of the COPPA Rule by&rdquo; TikTok, along with civil penalties for allegedly violating Child online privacy law.<\/p>\n<p>Acting Associate Attorney General Benjamin C. Mizer said in a statement Friday that the Justice Department is attempting to ensure TikTok follows child internet safety laws with the lawsuit.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The Department is deeply concerned that TikTok has continued to collect and retain children&rsquo;s personal information despite a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/courts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>court<\/a> order barring such conduct,&rdquo; Mizer said in a statement. &ldquo;With this action, the Department seeks to ensure that TikTok honors its obligation to protect children&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/majority-of-states-taking-on-house-democrats-equality-act\/\" title=\"Majority of states taking on House Democrats\u2019 Equality Act\">privacy rights<\/a> and parents&rsquo; efforts to protect their children.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>TikTok said in a statement Friday it &ldquo;disagrees&rdquo; with the allegations, and touted its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/twitter-expands-clubhouse-like-audio-chat-feature\/\" title=\"Twitter Expands Clubhouse-Like Audio Chat Feature\">safety features<\/a> for children on its platform &mdash; arguing it offers &ldquo;age-appropriate experiences with stringent safeguards.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We disagree with these allegations, many of which relate to past events and practices that are factually inaccurate or have been addressed,&rdquo; the company said in a statement. &ldquo;We are proud of our efforts to protect children, and we will continue to update and improve the platform.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>TikTok, which is Chinese-owned, is already facing trouble from the U.S. government in the coming months, when it will face a ban if ByteDance fails to divest from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/social-media\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>social media<\/a> platform.<\/p>\n<p>The deadline for TikTok to divest or be banned domestically is Jan. 19, 2025.
