With the upcoming presidential election ‌in November, there‌ is an increasing urgency ⁤to clean up voter registrations to ensure election integrity, particularly given the projected high number of‍ illegal immigrant encounters at the U.S.⁤ border under the Biden administration. In May the agency’s Public Integrity Division and Office of Data Analytics and Archives began a review of voter records to confirm that registrations complied with Ohio’s constitutional citizenship requirement. In 2022, Buckeye State voters overwhelmingly approved (77% to 23%) a constitutional amendment specifying that only U.S. citizens shall vote in local and state elections.

During a first sweep, using identification records from the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles database, agents discovered 136 voter registrations from individuals who twice confirmed that they are not U.S. citizens, according to the secretary. Of the total, 80 failed to respond when sent official notices “to either confirm their citizenship status or cancel their registration.” Those registrations are being scrubbed from the rolls, LaRose said.

On Thursday, Ohio’s top elections official said an additional 499 noncitizen registrations have been detected. On Thursday, Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose revealed that he is instructing local election officials to eliminate nearly 500 foreign national registrations from Ohio’s voter rolls. These suspected illegal registrations were uncovered during a statewide audit of the voter registration database.

With just over three months until the presidential election in November and less than two months before early voting begins in Ohio, the urgency to clean up the voter rolls is increasing. Given that there are projected to be 10 million encounters with illegal immigrants at the U.S. border during President Joe Biden’s administration, there is a legitimate concern that some noncitizens could participate in November’s election, potentially influencing outcomes in key battleground states.

Democrats tend to dismiss concerns about illegal aliens and other foreign nationals breaking laws by voting illegally, often underestimating or ignoring this issue entirely. U.S. Senator Mike Lee (R-Utah) pointed out a significant flaw: government officials responsible for registering voters and conducting federal elections are not permitted to require proof of citizenship. This makes it alarmingly easy for noncitizens to vote, leaving elections vulnerable to foreign interference.

As reported by the New York Post in June, most U.S. states do not require proof of citizenship when providing voter registration forms to migrants. In South Carolina, for instance, a spokesperson indicated that their Medicaid agency must provide voter registration information as mandated by federal law—this includes information sent out even to foreign nationals applying for benefits.

A video released by Heritage Foundation’s Oversight Project shows noncitizens acknowledging their registered status as voters; they estimate around 339,000 non-citizens reside in Georgia alone—if this proportion holds true statewide, it would mean over 47,000 registered non-citizens exist there—a notable figure considering Joe Biden won Georgia by fewer than 12,000 votes in 2020.

This situation has prompted serious efforts from election officials focused on maintaining electoral integrity who are working diligently to remove these unauthorized registrations from their lists.

LaRose has taken charge of this initiative with his office launching what he describes as a “multi-phase” audit of Ohio’s statewide voter registration database aimed at ensuring compliance with constitutional citizenship requirements established after voters overwhelmingly approved an amendment stating only U.S citizens can vote in local and state elections.

In an initial sweep using identification records from the Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV), officials found 136 individuals who had confirmed they were not U.S citizens among registered voters; many did not respond when asked whether they wished to confirm their status or cancel their registration—these entries will be removed accordingly.

On Thursday alone, LaRose announced an additional detection of nearly 499 more noncitizen registrations linked directly back through BMV confirmations and further verified through federal databases designed for such checks.

LaRose emphasized that anyone whose registration is canceled still has an opportunity: they can submit a provisional ballot which will be counted if they can prove their citizenship afterward. He expressed his belief that most individuals likely did not intend any wrongdoing but stressed the importance of preventing mistaken registrations from leading into illegal votes while ensuring lawful citizens can participate without issues related especially if there have been recent changes regarding their citizenship status.

In May LaRose ordered county election administrators across Ohio begin enhanced searches within existing lists; since then nearly 155 thousand inactive or abandoned registrations have been purged based largely on address changes identified through new digital tools designed specifically track discrepancies within these records—from erroneous characters entered into names all way up unreasonably high ages listed therein too!

LaRose stated every state must maintain ongoing processes verifying accuracy within its own respective rolls but noted how Ohio possesses some most advanced protocols nationwide aimed at keeping elections fair while also allowing proper planning regarding ballots needed polling places required poll workers necessary!

[546
6571,13833,4333,5894,6431
post-2318180","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-the-federalist","tag-elections","tag-noncitizens","tag-ohio","tag-politics","tag-voter-registration
["GET
