In May the agency’s Public Integrity Division and Office of Data Analytics and Archives began a review of voter records to confirm that registrations complied with Ohio’s constitutional citizenship requirement. In 2022, Buckeye State voters overwhelmingly approved (77% to 23%) a constitutional amendment specifying that only U.S. citizens shall vote in local and state elections.

During a first sweep, using identification records from the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles database, agents discovered 136 voter registrations from individuals who twice confirmed that they are not U.S. citizens, according to the secretary. Of the total, 80 failed to respond when sent official notices “to either confirm their citizenship status or cancel their registration.” Those registrations are being scrubbed from the rolls, LaRose said.

On Thursday, Ohio’s top elections official said an additional 499 noncitizen registrations have been detected. However, the left and their allies in corporate media insist there’s nothing to worry about. On Thursday, Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose revealed that he is instructing local election officials to eliminate nearly 500 foreign national registrations from Ohio’s voter rolls. These suspected illegal registrations were uncovered during a statewide audit of the voter registration database.

With just over three months until the presidential election in November and less than two months before early in-person and absentee voting starts in Ohio, the urgency to clean up the voter rolls is increasing daily. Given that there are projected to be 10 million encounters with illegal immigrants at the U.S. border during President Joe Biden’s administration, there’s a legitimate concern that some noncitizens could participate in November’s election, potentially influencing outcomes—especially in key battleground states.

Democrats tend to dismiss concerns about illegal aliens or foreign nationals breaking laws by voting illegally, often underestimating the issue. U.S. Senator Mike Lee (R-Utah) pointed out this oversight in a recent column for The Federalist: “Those making this argument ignore a glaring problem: government officials who register voters and conduct federal elections aren’t allowed to require proof of citizenship.” He emphasized how easy it is for noncitizens to vote due to these regulations.

As reported by the New York Post earlier this year, most U.S. states do not require proof of citizenship when providing voter registration forms to migrants. In South Carolina, for instance, a spokesperson from its Department of Health and Human Services noted that they must provide voter registration information as mandated by federal law—this includes all applicants for benefits like Medicaid, which can encompass foreign nationals.

A video released by Heritage Foundation’s Oversight Project shows noncitizens acknowledging their registered status as voters; they estimate around 339,000 non-citizens reside in Georgia alone—if 14% are registered voters statewide—that would mean over 47,000 registered non-citizens—a significant number considering Joe Biden won Georgia by fewer than 12,000 votes in 2020.

This situation has prompted serious efforts from election officials focused on maintaining electoral integrity who are working diligently to remove these unauthorized registrations from their lists.

LaRose has taken charge on this front with what he describes as a “multi-phase” audit process aimed at ensuring compliance with Ohio’s constitutional requirement that only U.S citizens may vote locally or statewide—a measure overwhelmingly approved by voters (77% support) last year.

In an initial sweep using identification records from state motor vehicle databases, agents found 136 individuals who had confirmed they were not U.S citizens among registered voters; many did not respond when asked about their citizenship status after being notified officially regarding their registrations’ validity. As part of ongoing efforts announced Thursday by LaRose’s office additional investigations revealed another set of nearly 500 suspect registrations linked directly back through verification systems confirming individuals’ statuses as non-citizen residents.

LaRose stated those whose names have been removed still have an opportunity—they can cast provisional ballots which will be counted if they prove their citizenship afterward: “I want them given every benefit possible,” he said while emphasizing his commitment towards preventing any mistaken registration leading into unlawful votes while ensuring lawful participants face no barriers during upcoming elections especially if changes occurred recently regarding one’s legal standing within America itself.”

In May LaRose ordered county administrators across Ohio begin enhanced routine checks against existing registries resulting thus far into almost155 thousand inactive entries being purged primarily due address discrepancies identified through new digital tools designed specifically track irregularities ranging everything improper characters appearing within name fields age-related anomalies etc., asserting “Every state must maintain accurate records but we’ve established protocols here considered most advanced nationwide.

[546
36987,4333,36986
post-2318045","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-the-federalist","tag-noncitizen-voting","tag-ohio","tag-sos-review
["GET
