Harris&rsquo;s candidacy in the wake of President Joe Biden exiting the race has created a renewed sense of hope among Democrats in the state.<\/p>\n<p>This weekend, Trump&rsquo;s campaign is expected to host a rally in the same venue. Hosting both campaign stops in the same venue gives both campaigns a moment to be compared in terms of optics and the number of people in attendance.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Georgia is one of several battleground states this election cycle. Harris is polling just 2 points below Trump, with Harris gaining 46% to Trump&rsquo;s 48%, according to a recent <em>Hill<\/em>\/Emerson College <a href=\"https:\/\/emersoncollegepolling.com\/july-2024-swing-state-polls-harris-trails-trump-in-arizona-georgia-michigan-pennsylvania-tied-in-wisconsin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>poll<\/a>. It&rsquo;s a state Biden narrowly flipped by a little more than 11,000 votes, marking the first time Georgia voted for a Democrat for president since 1992.<\/p>\n<p>While Gov. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/brian-kemp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Brian Kemp<\/a> (R-GA) previously said he believed Georgia was not in play and would be red in November, he is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/presidential\/3061978\/kemp-didnt-vote-anybody-georgia-presidential-primary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>warning Republicans<\/a> to be cautiously optimistic about the state.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I do not think Republicans need to be getting overconfident right now,&rdquo; Kemp <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/live-updates\/2024\/07\/17\/rnc-live-updates-coverage\/kemp-in-conversation-00169053\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>said<\/a> during the Republican National Convention.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats have a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/presidential\/3103899\/harris-swoops-atlanta-democrats-saying-georgia-in-play\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>renewed sense of optimism<\/a> in the Peach State with Harris presumably at the top of the ticket.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I have not seen this much excitement amongst the Democratic base and Democratic coalition since Barack Obama,&rdquo; Tharon Johnson, an Atlanta-based political strategist who has worked for Democratic candidates in the state, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/politics\/elections\/kamala-harris-black-voters-georgia-a3b758b6?mod=hp_lead_pos3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>told<\/a> the<em> Wall Street Journal<\/em>. &ldquo;This is the most excitement we&rsquo;ve felt in Georgia over the last decade.&rdquo;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In recent elections, Democrats have held large advantages in Atlanta, as well as Columbus and Savannah, and some rural counties with majority-black populations.
