It claims that inquiries about Biden’s sudden disappearance amount to conspiracy theories, particularly in light ⁤of former President ⁢Donald Trump’s comments linking Biden’s exit to recent events surrounding Trump.⁤ The ⁢author⁣ defends the legitimacy of asking such questions, arguing that it is critical for Americans to seek‍ clarity about a leader’s unavailability—especially after prior assurances from Biden that he wouldn’t resign. The ‍piece highlights interactions between Sean Davis, CEO of The Federalist, and Washington Post reporters who sought clarification on his social media comments, portraying these inquiries as an attempt⁢ by the Post to ⁤label dissenting opinions ⁣as conspiracy theories. Davis critiques the media’s handling of political narratives, ‍suggesting they contribute to political polarization and public mistrust. The author expresses⁤ frustration with what they see as the media’s role in shaping political narratives, emphasizing the importance of questioning and seeking truth in a democratic society.

Asking key questions about President Joe Biden’s absence following the Democrat’s exit from the 2024 presidential race via a letter posted to an X account over the weekend makes you a conspiracy theorist. At least, that’s what The Washington Post’s latest article alleges.

In an article published on Wednesday night, the publication best known for its incessant hoaxing and smearing claimed social media posts questioning why Biden was in hiding days after he allegedly decided to drop out of the upcoming election amount to “years of reality-bending messages from Trump and others on the right that have helped polarize the electorate and shaken Americans’ belief in a shared set of facts.”

It is neither crime nor conspiracy to inquire why the man responsible for leading the nation suddenly disappeared from the public eye shortly after he appeared to give in to Democrat demands for him to suspend his campaign. This is the assertion made by a recent article from The Washington Post. The piece, released on Wednesday night, claims that social media posts questioning Biden’s silence days after he supposedly decided to exit the election reflect “years of reality-bending messages from Trump and others on the right,” which have contributed to a divided electorate and eroded Americans’ trust in a common set of facts.

It is neither illegal nor conspiratorial to ask why the leader of the nation has suddenly gone quiet, especially after he appeared to yield to Democratic pressure to suspend his campaign. In fact, it is a reasonable response for Americans who were assured by Biden and his team that he would not resign. If mainstream media were not so focused on promoting the Democratic Party’s agenda, they would likely have numerous questions regarding the president’s absence. Instead, The Washington Post criticized inquiries from former President Donald Trump and prominent right-wing figures about Biden’s withdrawal, suggesting that these questions “sow doubt” and could undermine confidence in the upcoming election, recalling how similar unfounded theories previously incited a violent attack on the Capitol.

One notable post mentioned in the article came from Sean Davis, CEO of The Federalist, who questioned whether it was merely a “coincidence” that Biden only announced his exit after failed attempts to imprison and assassinate Trump. Davis’s statement and question are neither inaccurate nor inappropriate, particularly given his role in a news organization that emphasizes asking questions that mainstream media often overlook. Despite speculation about Biden’s anticipated departure circulating weeks prior, the announcement came only after the assassination attempt on the former president.

The Washington Post’s Mariana Alfaro requested clarification from Davis regarding whether he believed Biden’s announcement was linked to the assassination attempt. Following this, another reporter, Sarah Ellison, reached out to Davis, seeking an explanation for his First Amendment-protected post and citing researchers who claimed that connecting these events constituted a conspiracy theory. Ellison gave Davis less than an hour to respond before her article was published.

When Davis eventually replied, he pointed out that the Washington Post has previously propagated false and dangerous conspiracy theories about political violence targets, including Justice Brett Kavanaugh and Trump. He questioned whether Ellison felt any responsibility for the violence directed at Kavanaugh due to the paper’s role in spreading such theories and expressed concern that the Post’s reporting might have incited violence against Trump or his supporters.

Davis also noted that Alfaro had sent him a similar email earlier but did not acknowledge his response. He criticized the paper for repeatedly asking the same question without considering his previous answers, suggesting that this approach was aimed at obtaining a quote to discredit political opponents.

Ellison later claimed she was unaware that her co-author had already contacted Davis. In response, Davis expressed disbelief at her lack of knowledge and called for a more credible explanation. Ultimately, Ellison published her article, which accused Davis and others of spreading falsehoods, without including his responses. This incident highlights the growing distrust among Americans towards corporate media, with a significant majority expressing skepticism about their ability to report facts accurately.

Jordan Boyd is a staff writer at The Federalist and producer of The Federalist Radio Hour.
