In addition to vandalizing the Freedom Bell, they also spray-painted &#8220;Hamas is coming&#8221; on the Christopher Columbus fountain, removed and burned the American flag, and set fire to an effigy of Netanyahu. <\/p>\n<p>Some Republican lawmakers, including former Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke, later assessed the damage, highlighting the defacement of the Freedom Bell and the fountain. Zinke condemned the actions, stating, &#8220;These are not protesters. These are terrorists.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>In response, GOP members of Congress, including House Speaker Mike Johnson, raised new American flags over Union Station that evening, replacing the Palestinian flags that had been hoisted by the demonstrators. Johnson emphasized that they would not allow the actions of the protesters to prevail. <\/p>\n<p>Fox News host Dana Perino noted that while individuals have the right to burn their own flags, they cannot remove and destroy flags that are federal property.
