As the voting block grows, the politically independent voting block appears to be shifting to the Right. In the 2012 presidential election, Republican presidential nominee&nbsp; Mitt Romney <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/race-and-ethnicity\/2012\/11\/07\/latino-voters-in-the-2012-election\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>took<\/a> only 27% of the Hispanic vote. Eight years and two presidential cycles later, former President Donald Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/politics\/2021\/06\/30\/behind-bidens-2020-victory\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>claimed<\/a> 38% of the Latino vote. <\/p>\n<p>As November approaches, Trump is battling to expand his margin of support with Hispanics. In July, his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/republican-tyler-kistner-slams-democrat-rep-angie-craig-for-abusing-proxy-vote-rule\/\" title=\"Republican Tyler Kistner Slams Democrat Rep. Angie Craig for Abusing Proxy Vote Rule\">campaign touted<\/a> their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/washington-secrets\/3094053\/trump-sees-win-over-harris-help-from-black-hispanic-voters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>recent survey<\/a> showing Harris has the support of 43% of Hispanics to 42% for Trump. In 2020, Biden won 59% of the Hispanic vote.<\/p>\n<p>While nationwide, Hispanics may be leaning towards a Trump candidacy, Texas Latinos aren&rsquo;t necessarily rushing toward Republicans across the state. In 2022, Gov. Greg Abbot (R-TX) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/politics\/2019\/04\/29\/did-more-texas-latinos-vote-in-2018-here-s-what-census-data-shows\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>received<\/a> approximately 40% of the Latino vote in his 2022 gubernatorial race, a slight decline from 42% four years earlier.<\/p>\n<p>The slight decline in Hispanic support is mirrored in Cruz&rsquo;s Senate races. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/short-reads\/2018\/11\/09\/how-latinos-voted-in-2018-midterms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Pew Research Center<\/a> stated that during the Republican&rsquo;s 2018&nbsp;Senate race against Beto O&rsquo;Rourke, 35% of Latinos supported Cruz. That&rsquo;s a narrow drop from Cruz&rsquo;s initial 2012 bid for the Senate when polling <a href=\"https:\/\/www.texasmonthly.com\/burka-blog\/ted-cruz-and-the-hispanic-vote\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>showed<\/a> that 40% of Hispanics voted for Cruz.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title><strong><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>However, other indicators suggest there remains a trend toward the GOP even in the Lone Star State. In March, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/gop-group-launches-legislative-blitz-on-biden-china\/\" title=\"GOP group launches legislative blitz on Biden-China\">conservative lawmakers launched<\/a> the Texas Hispanic Republican Caucus, saying its&rsquo; formation &ldquo;marks a significant development in the Texas Legislature, highlighting a newfound cohesion among the Hispanic Republican members across both chambers of the Texas Capitol.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Texas Hispanics also appear to be enthusiastic about a Trump presidency.
