return false;\" title=\"Printer Friendly, PDF &amp; Email\"><span id=\"printfriendly-text2\" class=\"pf-button-text\"><i class=\"mdi mdi-printer\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i><\/span><\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<p>House Democrats are pushing to have the former Jan. 6 Committee chairman who sought to <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/07\/13\/democrats-started-trying-to-strip-trumps-secret-service-protection-just-months-before-shooting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">strip<\/a> former President Donald Trump of his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-votes-on-major-security-upgrade-will-fine-members-5k-for-bypassing-metal-detectors\/\" title=\"House Votes On Major Security Upgrade, Will Fine Members K For Bypassing Metal Detectors\">security detail<\/a> earlier this year serve on a bipartisan commission investigating the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/iraqi-govt-blames-shiite-groups-for-botched-attack-on-prime-minister-2\/\" title=\"Iraqi Govt. blames Shi\u2019ite groups for botched attack on prime minister\">recent assassination attempt<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, Punchbowl News <a href=\"https:\/\/punchbowl.news\/article\/investigations\/mike-johnson-assassination-commission-behind-the-scenes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a> that former Jan. 6 Committee Chairman Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., is one top candidate Democrats are considering for an appointment to the 11-person panel established by House leadership.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-34500942e504f14b22cef83eb627e74b fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-34500942e504f14b22cef83eb627e74b\"><\/div>\n<p>&ldquo;House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries can choose five Democrats to serve along with six Republicans,&rdquo; Punchbowl reported. &ldquo;Democrats are still sorting through potential candidates. But one name we&rsquo;ve heard is Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.). Thompson is the top Democrat on the House Homeland Security panel and chaired the Jan. 6 Committee.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>In the spring, however, Thompson introduced legislation to leave Trump vulnerable to assassination with the Denying Infinite Security and Government Resources Allocated toward Convicted and Extremely Dishonorable (DISGRACED) Former Protectees Act (<a href=\"https:\/\/democrats-homeland.house.gov\/imo\/media\/doc\/disgraced_former_protectees_act_text.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">HR 8081<\/a>). The bill, proposed in April, would have terminated Secret Service protection for otherwise qualified candidates who are convicted of a felony. Trump was <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/05\/31\/guilty-trump-verdict-will-keep-good-people-from-running-for-office\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">convicted<\/a> by a New York jury in May on 34 counts of falsifying business records when the Manhattan real estate mogul labeled payments to a lawyer as legal expenses. <\/p>\n<p>The Mississippi lawmaker wrote in a post on X he was &ldquo;glad the former President is safe&rdquo; following a would-be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/sarah-huckabee-sanders-criticizes-jill-and-joe-biden-at-rnc-washington-examiner\/\" title=\"Sarah Huckabee Sanders criticizes Jill and Joe Biden at RNC - Washington Examiner\">assassin&#038;rsquo<\/a>;s bullet tearing through Trump&rsquo;s ear at a Pennsylvania rally. Trump miraculously survived the assassination attempt with a last-second tilt of the head to read a chart on immigration. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"> <span class=\"7QleLli653FfJOdchFGJqRQ0yoKdIWvKVPpaGNTW9UmDXa4hyjboCqntprMBU8xRuVBDbHn2M9\"><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">There is no room in American democracy for political violence. Thompson (@BennieGThompson) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BennieGThompson\/status\/1812275735039730041?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 13, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/span> <\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Punchbowl News not only omitted Thompson&rsquo;s efforts to remove Trump&rsquo;s security detail, but the outlet also said nothing of the former Jan. 6 Committee chairman&rsquo;s misconduct on the partisan panel that was weaponized to throw political opponents in jail without proper oversight.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-8e3e564227034f4c4fb6f3e974dddc2c fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-8e3e564227034f4c4fb6f3e974dddc2c\"><\/div>\n<p>In March, House lawmakers investigating the Jan. 6 Committee&rsquo;s conduct reported that Thompson&rsquo;s probe <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/03\/12\/house-report-j6-committee-hid-troves-of-records-and-testimony-undermining-democrat-conspiracies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">deleted<\/a> troves of records from the two-year inquisition to cover up additional abuses by the committee. The Federalist had just <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/03\/08\/exclusive-liz-cheney-january-6-committee-suppressed-exonerating-evidence-of-trumps-push-for-national-guard\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">revealed<\/a> the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-to-use-private-firms-to-surveil-service-members-social-media-accounts-for-concerning-behavior-report\/\" title=\"Biden To Use Private Firms To Surveil Service Members\u2019 Social Media Accounts For \u2018Concerning Behavior\u2019: Report\">committee led<\/a> by Thompson and disgraced Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney concealed testimony from former White House Deputy Chief of Staff Anthony Ornato, who told investigators Trump pled for D.C. leadership to accept 10,000 National Guard reinforcements for local police ahead of Jan. 6, 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The Jan. 6 Committee ultimately imprisoned two former Trump officials who refused to comply with subpoenas issued by lawmakers on the panel, which was <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/11\/10\/j6-committee-misleading-witnesses-about-republican-staff-presence\/\">improperly<\/a> established in the lower chamber.
