The House Oversight \u2063Committee demanded her resignation following the\u200c incident. She was criticized for the lack of security and failure to secure the \u2063rooftop where the\u2062 gunman was\u200b able to take a direct shot at Trump. Cheatle could not explain why there was no\u2063 agent on the rooftop and stated they are still investigating.\u2062 Democrats\u2063 and Republicans alike expressed concerns over the security lapse and\u200b called for greater accountability\u2064 within the Secret Service.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle told lawmakers her agency has no radio recordings from the day of the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, Cheatle was asked about the security agency&rsquo;s records-keeping practices by Rep. Russell Fry, R-S.C. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Does the Secret Service routinely record communications between and amongst detail?&rdquo; Fry said. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Radio communications?&rdquo; Cheatle clarified.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Any communication,&rdquo; Fry said. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Email communications are captured as well as text messages. And then depending on the detail, radio communications are recorded,&rdquo; Cheatle said. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Does the Secret Service have recorded communications from the July 13th event?&rdquo; Fry asked.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We do not have radio communications from that day,&rdquo; Cheatle said. <\/p>\n<figure>\n<p><span><\/p>\n<blockquote data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p>&mdash; Julie Kelly &#127482;&#127480; (@julie_kelly2) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/julie_kelly2\/status\/1815454221350678563?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 22, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/span> <\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>The Secret Service director remained defiant before the House Oversight Committee on Monday as members of both parties demanded her resignation following the assassination attempt of the Republican presidential nominee.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I just don&rsquo;t think this is partisan,&rdquo; said Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif. &ldquo;If you have an assassination attempt on the president, a former president, or a candidate, you need to resign.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Khanna got Cheatle to agree the recent Trump shooting was &ldquo;the most serious security lapse since President [Ronald] Reagan was shot in 1981.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Well, do you know what Stuart Knight did &mdash; he was in charge, at the time, of the Secret Service &mdash; do you know what he did?&rdquo; Khanna asked.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;He remained on duty,&rdquo; Cheatle said with confidence. The California congressman corrected her. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;He resigned. He resigned,&rdquo; Khanna said. &ldquo;And Stuart Knight was not a Democratic appointee &hellip; I&rsquo;m not questioning your judgment, I just don&rsquo;t think this is partisan. Three counter-snipers were stationed&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/07\/16\/report-three-counter-snipers-were-in-building-trump-shooter-used-took-photos-of-him\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">inside<\/a>&nbsp;the building, but none were on the rooftop. A source also&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/07\/13\/democrats-started-trying-to-strip-trumps-secret-service-protection-just-months-before-shooting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">told<\/a>&nbsp;The Federalist that Trump&rsquo;s team had repeatedly pled with federal officials to beef up security but were rebuffed &ldquo;time and again.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><strong>[RELATED:&nbsp;[RELATED:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/07\/17\/any-roofer-worth-his-salt-knows-secret-services-sloped-roof-excuse-is-total-nonsense\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Any Roofer Worth His Salt Knows Secret Service&rsquo;s &lsquo;Sloped&rsquo; Roof Excuse Is Total Nonsense<\/a>]<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On Friday, The Wall Street Journal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/politics\/national-security\/trump-gunman-flew-drone-over-rally-site-hours-before-attempted-assassination-2d0e2e1a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a> that the 20-year-old gunman had successfully flown a drone at the rally grounds hours before Trump&rsquo;s speech.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Thomas Matthew Crooks flew the drone on a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/cheatle-confirmed-that-there-are-no-radio-recordings-of-the-pennsylvania-trump-rally\/\" title=\"Cheatle confirmed that there are no radio recordings of the Pennsylvania Trump rally\">programmed flight path earlier<\/a> in the day on July 13 to scour the Butler Farm Show grounds ahead of Trump&rsquo;s ill-fated rally,&rdquo; the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/cheatle-confirms-that-there-are-no-radio-recordings-of-the-pennsylvania-trump-rally\/\" title=\"Cheatle confirms that there are no radio recordings of the Pennsylvania Trump rally\">paper reported citing law-enforcement officials<\/a> who were briefed. &ldquo;The predetermined path, the officials added, suggests Crooks flew the drone more than once as he researched and scoped out the event site.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>      Tristan Justice is the western correspondent for The Federalist and the author of Social Justice Redux, a conservative newsletter on culture, health, and wellness.
